*Update May 2025*
We are currently tearing down the entire inside of the house, and have placed all furnitures in the guesthouse, so we can currently not host Workawayers. If you travel by van and can sleep in it, please be informed that we don't have a functional shower (bucket showers outdoors) and eat very simple meals, so we are currently very limited in what we can offer in terms of comfort. If you are still interested in joining us to help out despite this, we would be glad to receive your message!
Hello everyone!
We are Elin and Thibaud, a Swedish-French couple in our mid 30s/early 40s who met while working in the humanitarian sector back in 2020. We are now embarking on an exciting journey to transform our charming summer cottage into a cozy, year-round home. Our house is located on Tjurkö, a picturesque island in the Karlskrona archipelago in southeastern Sweden. It’s a serene, nature-filled haven, and we’re thrilled to share it with like-minded people.
We are giving the house a total make-over, and are looking for volunteers to help us on this journey. In addition, our spacious garden needs some love and care.
We’d love to welcome volunteers who:
- Are respectful, open-minded, and curious about our project, the region, and generally their surroundings.
- Share our sustainable mindset. We embrace a no-waste lifestyle: conserving water, turning off unnecessary lights, using what we have before buying more, and eating mainly plant-based meals.
- Are comfortable with an eco-friendly, close-to-nature experience. (Our composting toilet is outdoors) This isn’t a luxury getaway, but it’s perfect for those who want a simple, quiet time.
- Prefer exploring their surroundings to scrolling on their phones and immerse yourself in this unique experience, instead of only taking pictures to be able to post on Instagram.
This isn’t a hotel or an open buffet. We welcome you warmly into our home but ask for mutual respect, common sense, and a willingness to adapt to our way of life.
If this sounds like the kind of experience you’re looking for, read on—we’d love to hear from you!Tipos de ayuda y oportunidades de aprendizaje

We are a Togolese-French-Vietnamese-Swedish couple with a passion for exploring the world. Having traveled to over 65 countries and lived on several continents, we’ve gathered a wealth of stories and experiences. Fun fact: we actually met at an airport after missing our connecting flight—proof that even the unexpected can lead to incredible adventures!
We’d love to introduce you to Swedish and French culture while hearing all about your background and experiences. We mainly speak English at home, but you can also practice your Swedish and French with us.Ayuda
We’re looking for enthusiastic, hands-on volunteers. The help will vary depending on what sub-project we are currently working on and what the workawayer is comfortable doing and interested in learning, but you can expect some degree of physical/manual tasks. We always need a pair of extra hands to help us in the house and the garden, and the most important is that the volunteers are willing to learn and have a positive attitude. We are open to discuss the tasks with the volunteer ahead of the stay, so that we can assure a mutual exchange.
The helping hours are flexible, but it is about 5 hours a day, 5 days a week.Idiomas

We speak mainly English at home, but you can learn or improve your Swedish or French skills with us as well.Alojamiento
Our home is a classic Swedish summer cottage (although painted yellow, not red :)). While we’re refurbishing it, expect some degree of organized chaos. If the weather cooperates, you’ll likely spend plenty of time outdoors.
The volunteers will be sleeping in one of the guest houses in the garden, which will not be undergoing any work this year. There is a double bed so we can host a couple or two friends. The composting toilet is in a small shed outside, while the shower and kitchen are in the main building. You’re welcome to relax in our large garden and enjoy your morning coffee or tea surrounded by nature.Algo más...
Tjurkö is a small island in the Baltic Sea with around 200 inhabitants. During summer, there’s a quaint café, and you can swim in the surrounding sea. We have bikes you can use to explore the island’s scenic beauty, or you can go island-hopping to explore the archipelago by boat.
Karlskrona, a charming town 30 minutes away by car, offers all the essentials—grocery stores, restaurants, cafes, a cinema, and a naval museum. Public buses and a summer boat service make it easy to get there.
As for food, we are pescatarians (but we eat mainly plant-based), but you are absolutely welcome to follow your usual diet. There is a smaller grocery store a 20 minutes bike ride away or a larger one in town where you can buy any other food you prefer.
Please also note that we like to keep our house tidy and clean, and we expect volunteers to keep it that way.Un poco más de información
