French or Italian speaker to share family life and play with our kids in Maple Ridge, Canada

  Hello workawayers! We are a family of four living in Maple Ridge, British Columbia which is about 1 hour from the city of Vancouver. Our home is facing the Fraser River and we have a back yard. We have a train that takes you directly to Vancouver in the mornings, and back in the late afternoon/evenings. Maple Ridge is filled with beautiful nature and Vancouver is a great spot for socializing, shopping, outings and nature sites as well. Our children are 6 and 1.5. Our daughter is currently in a French immersion program. She is very social, articulate and creative. Our son is a very active little one who needs a lot of action to stay happy. My husband works in sales, from home usually. He is very easy going and has a great sense of humour. I am a photographer working part time and stay home for the most part.

  Our family loves good food, music and conversation. We are always putting on a record, in the kitchen making and baking while the kids play. We have a nice yard facing the river with a fire pit and a lovely garden with seating. We also love a good workout, stretching/yoga and learning new physical skills through calisthenics.
  
  Skills we can share: photography, calisthenics, sales, English language/reading & writing. Farsi language.

  Ayuda

  We are looking for someone patient, kind and empathic who can spend time with our children and speak French, Italian or Spanish to them. Our daughter loves to play pretend, sing, do different arts and crafts and talk! Our son is a busy body who loves to run around and play. He is super affectionate and enjoys playing outside.
  
  We need help teaching them another language through play and casual day to day conversation. My daughter may be enrolled in homeschooling so she may need someone to help with the curriculum. Spending time with the children outdoors. We would also love a little help around the home like light house keeping, mostly cleaning up after the kids as the day goes: making snacks and food for them, cleaning after yourselves, if you see something that the kids have made a mess of/general tidying and cleaning, emptying the dishwasher, that sort of thing. That being said, the priority is the children; connecting with them and enriching their lives with play and language.
  
  I will usually be around, so will my husband as we both work from home majority of the time.

  We have a private room for the workaway volunteer. You’ll have access to a washroom as well. My husband and I don’t use this washroom as we have our own in our room and a powder room downstairs where the kitchen and living area is. My daughter may use it here and there but it will likely be mostly yours. We also have a separate wing in the house - that could be an option too. We have a washer and dryer you are welcome to use anytime. The food we eat is mostly meat and fruit with some vegetables but we are flexible if you have preferences. We would be happy for you to feel at home here and help yourself to anything you’d like. I love feeding people and ensuring people who stay with us feel at home and truly comfortable.

  We live in some what of a remote area, however we are a short ride to the nearest train if you’d ever like to go to the city. It runs from 6am-7:20am towards Vancouver and returns back home in the afternoon/evenings from 4pm-6:15pm. My husband drives to downtown Vancouver as well a few times a week. He could also take you there and perhaps back. There is beautiful and scenic nature attractions in Maple Ridge and Vancouver has a lot of offerings as well. We could drop off and pick up with some planning.
  
  How we are at home:
  We try to use “gentle” or “respectful parenting” methods with our children and “consent parenting”. It’s important that who ever joins us is patient, respectful and kind to our kids. We try not to feed our children much processed foods and really strive to give them a whole food lifestyle. We limit screen time and don’t have a TV but do allow a movie/educational programs from time to time. We would like who ever stays with us to be truly present with the kids as we don’t rely on screens or technology really. We would prefer our guest to be a non-smoker and have some experience with children. We would expect the guest to have their screen or phones away while they are with our children. We believe it’s important to preserve innocence in children so we don’t subject them to more than we need to in terms of topics or education.

  We could always discuss how we can divide the day amongst us. We just would like to make sure the time spent with our children is time fully present without distractions.
