Welcome to our page!
Our project has hosted around 800 volunteers in the last 5 years. They have come to experience something different and fulfilling. We bought the farm in order to host events and training, specifically Permaculture courses and self development. The farm is situated in the Sierra Nevada mountains on the Caribbean coast above the town of Rio Ancho which is 15 minutes from the beach resort of Palomino. It is a tropical climate with tropical plants like bananas and pineapples. We are currently (2022) building some clay walls and other structures to host people and events. We are also farming organically and using Permaculture design. We are reforesting the land with food forest and native trees.
I am currently offering volunteers a 5 day introduction to permaculture course. which includes theory classes and practical experience. The course is offered free to volunteers staying at least 14 days on the Farm. In the course we cover basic permaculture design and theory about 1 hour per day, if you don't want to take part in the course it is not a problem, it's just an option that I am happy to offer. Please note, the minimum stay on the farm is 14 days
I volunteered at around 20 different places around the world before settling in our place, our objective is to provide you with the support that you need to have an enjoyable experience with us.
You can expect to help 3 hours a day five days a week. Cooking will also be needed, everyone takes their turn. There are plenty of different jobs to do so you can expect some variety. We aim to provide a place you can feel like home, we also ask that you respect the place and the local indigenous people (Kogi) The Sierra Nevada mountains are home to indigenous tribes, we live in harmony with them and respect their traditions and customs. We speak, English Español and French. We prefer volunteers whom would stay more than 2 weeks. we currently do not receive any income from the farm so ask volunteers to cover some of the cost of buying and transporting food which is (approx $€£5 per day per person so that we can continue to offer opportunities to volunteers. This covers all three meals a day. Plus Gas and internet***If you prefer to bring your own food and cook separately you are free to do so. Normally what we do is take turns preparing the meals for everyone and up till now it has worked very well. Even if you're not a great cooker you can be a great assistant and it's more just about having fun and experimenting..

We are European, so we wont teach you so much about Colombia, you will see Indigenous people outside of the farm. We will teach you about Permaculture and living in a sustainable way, we are learning as well, so you may bring information and skills that we have never come across, and that is what exchange means..
It is a farm and a home, so we have some chickens and we have some crops, mainly fruit. We also have to cook and clean. The tasks will relate to these things. Today, I cleaned the dishes, I cooked breakfast, then I moved some leaves to the compost, then, I chopped some wood for the fire, fed the chickens. In the afternoon I dug a swale as part of my Permaculture design course, then I chopped some grass. Went for a swim in the river and brought some water back to the kitchen. I also picked up Guavava fruits and made jam and lunch. Wow, there is plenty of things to do...

Currently we have simple huts with beds and a dorm with hammocks . We also have space for your own tent under the roof of the house, so has rain and sun protection. We have a shower area, kitchen and chill zone. We have solar panels so we have lights in the kitchen and a place to charge phones during the day.
The farm is located in the foothills above Rio Ancho, if you love walking in the mountains, this place is perfect. There are snakes and spiders around, the sun can be really hot and in winter ( october- december. abril- jun) rain can be really strong. There are some biting flies. Suitable clothing will make your stay much happier. We have a small river which runs through the property and is perfect to cool off . To get to the farm, you can either walk from rio Ancho, which will take you 1.5 hours or you can take a mototaxi 40 minutes. The taxi will charge you 20000 COP 5 Euros/Dollars. Palomino beach is 15 minute drive from Rio Ancho. It is dark on the farm at night so a torch Is essential , make sure you have appropriate medical insurance for Colombia. Internet is only available through mobile phones with the operator Claro. We do get mobile phone coverage and limited internet on some parts of the farm. The costs of transportation are not included as part of the exchange program.
Many people do the lost city trek, or go to the national park of Tayrona or simply relax in Palomino
