Staying at Harriet’s farm was a dream—surrounded by the happiest animals, beautiful nature, kind people, and given the freedom to work on whatever projects we’d like. I loved getting to know the dogs, horses, pigs, goats, and spiders! There happened to be a lot of volunteers when I was there, but such wonderful people were drawn to Harriet’s
… read more place, I had a great time getting to know other travelers like me! I often cooked for the group and loved having a stocked pantry and weekly deliveries of organic local produce to play with. I also did some weeding, cleaning, and helped install a post and wire fence, and hung the gate myself! It was so much fun, so rewarding to spend sunny days working hard in the dirt with other women, then relax into a good nourishing meal and a dip in the pool. I highly recommend staying and working at Harriet’s! She’s an amazing person: so caring and grounded, I wish we had more time together. Until next time!
Having Kerstin and Tobias stay with us and help at our farm was so comfortable and easy it was like having 2 old friends or dear family members come to stay - except that unlike many friends and family they were totally committed to helping in any way they could.
They were super flexible - happy to try their hand at any thing, hard working,

What more can I say? You’d be crazy not to have this life-loving hard working couple come help you with whatever project you have. Or just life!
They’re welcome at Ferndale Farm any time.
We came for a couple of nights but stayed 3 weeks. And if we weren’t pressed for time we probably would have stayed even longer. It was an overall great experience to get to now Harriet and her family. Everybody was very friendly, helpful and welcoming so we felt like a temporary part of the family. Plus, we had the chance to have our privacy

Work wise, Harriet was relaxed about the hours and kind of work. Since the property is 25 hectares there’s always something that needs to be done. We did some gardening, helped with the construction of o fence, picked fruits, cleared spaces that needed to be cleared, fed the sheep and the pigs, prepared food, cut back blackberries, drove the kids somewhere or picked them up. Also, we showered the 3 dogs with love and went for walks with them.
Harriet and her family are amazing hosts and we can only 100% recommend to go there. We loved it!

I had the incredible chance to have my first Workaway experience with them. From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed and integrated. They managed to make me forget about homesickness.
