The cafe and gardens are owned and run by the Guerrero Family, Lopinot, Trinidad. Our Cafe started in 2001, as a place for simple tea or light meals. The genesis of this began in 1984 after the seven Guerrero sisters won the Family Class of the local Music Festival. Following on this many people made their way to our little village nestled at the foothills of the Northern Range to ask our dad for us to sing to them.

After many years of serving the accidental guest whatever home made treats we had crafted for ourselves, our sister Bianca, and only brother, Arthur, decided that this was a business opportunity. Thirteen years later we now have a host home, an area where we may host meetings for up to 40 persons, dining for up to 60, opportunity to view at least 12 species of hummingbirds and several other varieties of birds. We are also a site for weddings of up to 100 and in the near future will be an open air venue for lectures and concerts.

Our enterprise is growing, three of us are certified chocolate makers so we have now added chocolate making to our list of delicacies crafted here. Some of us are cuisine innovators and in March 2014, we hosted our first annual Cocoa Innovation - A Tasting Event, which gave patrons an opportunity to taste several of our cuisine innovations made directly from the cocoa pulp or bean. Creating from savory to dessert. We are now 210 days from our second cocoa tasting event taking place on February 21, 2015.

There will be a lot of interesting, good tasting food available and if you are musical, the family loves to sing together for long hours when we get the chance.

We have a Spanish ancestral history and our village is known for the paranda a type of serenading done particularly during the Christmas season. Our village is approximately 30 minutes from the airport and about 1:30 minutes from Port of Spain, the main city.

We invite you to visit us for an initial week or two, with an open mind and a warm heart and we will welcome you into ours.

We have several challenges here which we would love to move past, for example -
To fully grow our on-site organic gardening where more of food grown here arrives on the table.
To ensure that our composting practices are sound and fuels our organic gardens.
To assist with the redesign of our landscaping
To unify our space, as both home and restaurant are so close to each other, while keeping the rustic ambiance of the Cafe and its surroundings for the enjoyment of our visitors
To get our waterfall up and running so as to add to the peace and beauty of the surroundings
To assist with a new cocoa house (in a few months)
Some woodwork, ceiling and tiling projects and a bit of kitchen redesign for easier flow, relocation

in the immediate area, there are caves, trails to hike and birds to be seen; one may even hike over to the famous Asa Wright Nature Lodge. We have a large pond where we rear Tilapia and this is used for a catch and release sporting activity. When caught, fish that are large enough, are used at the restaurant.

Trinidad has a large number of leatherback turtles during the season from January to August, the Aripo Savanna features interesting animals. While some of these may be a bit distant from our location, we will be willing to provide workawayers with necessary information for tour operators. If one is interested in a getaway to the sister isle of Tobago they may do so. The ferry is the least expensive way to go for a day or overnight stay.

Trinidad has a very vibrant creative community and there is always something of interest in the city, musically or at the theater.

In my mind, our cuisine is maybe one of the main events to experience and one can learn from us some of the things we create.
