We are a family of four: Jane 53, Glenn 58. Our adult son also lives in an adjoining shed.
We live on a 5.5 acre hobby farm in Central Victoria, where we grow all our own organic food. After leaving a frantic city life 8 years ago (incl London and Melbourne) we now live a sustainable life, contributing to the building of our ethical and healthy local community. Jane is a yoga teacher and Glenn a Shiatsu Practitioner and disability worker.
Particular skills we are after:
- gardening, or an interest in learning and getting your hands dirty!
-filming and photography and social media skills
-building and renovation skills
- admin and organisational skills to assist in garden projects including seed collection, labelling and sorting etc
Please get in touch to find out more details of the projects and what a working week will look like.

Experience and learn about permaculture, organic farming, and sustainability.
En este proyecto podría haber niños. Para obtener más información, consulta nuestras directrices y consejos aquí.
There are a variety of tasks on our permaculture smallholding and around the house.
In the Spring, the main ones include weeding and maintenance of the vegetable and fruit trees and berry beds, propagation and planting of vegetables, making compost, mowing etc.
In the Late Summer and Autumn, the main task is harvesting and preserving the abundance from the garden as well as propagation and making compost. All year round there is the care of the chickens, ducks and sheep.
Current skills welcome are good organisational and computer skills. Ideally some interest or skills in photography, filming and editing, including social media.
We also welcome people who have some experience in building.
There is capacity for a volunteer, to initiate their own creative project within the scope of the property.
We are currently changing and growing our accomodation offers.
Available from late January. Tiny house pictured on profile.
The tiny house is the accomodation for volunteers who can stay for a minimum of 1 month stay. Ideally we are interested in hosting interns for a season, 3 month stay where you can learn about a whole season on a permaculture farm.
Wifi is not available in the tiny house. Unlimited wifi is available at the main house, in many of the seating areas around the house.
Food is provided, 3 Meals per day, most of it is grown here in the garden. We eat varieties of food and cuisines from around the world. Please note we are meat eaters, and produce and eat lamb meat and eggs from the chickens.
Flexibility with working hours so volunteers can fit in other activities, such as seeing the sights if they wish.
About Taradale : it is a small town in Central Victoria. We are 15 km from Castlemaine which is a thriving and culturally rich town (including artist and environmental sustainable communitiies) in Central Victoria Goldfields region. There is limited but very connected public transport with a local bus during the week between Taradale and Castlemaine; and a train line with easy access to Melbourne (approx 1 hour away) and Bendigo 1/2 hour away.
Taradale itself has an eclectic mix of locals, with many interesting social events and has its own local Wine and Produce store that serves coffees, wines and pizzas. There is also the monthly Taradale Produce Swap which we go to and take excess produce and plants from the garden to swap with other avid gardeners and cooks.
