I live on a beautiful 1-acre property in Carlton, a peaceful coastal town about 40 minutes from Hobart and 30 minutes from the Tasman Peninsula. My home is bordered by native bushland, and a short walk through the trees and across a beautiful salt marsh takes you to the mouth of the Carlton River and a stunning beach. On quiet days, you’ll hear the waves from Carlton Beach, which is popular with surfers, and Primrose Sands, a more sheltered spot that’s great for beach walks.
The nearby area (Carlton, Dodges Ferry & Lewisham) has a friendly, creative community vibe, with a local grocer, bakery, pharmacy, art co-op, op shop, pub, and several cafes. There’s also a food co-op and a bike repair shed at the community house, where you can buy refurbished bikes at very low prices — a great way to get around locally.
I share my home with three small dogs and five cats, all older animals who love companionship. Over time I’m planning to add chickens and gradually transform the block into a permaculture-inspired food forest and creative sanctuary.
I’m looking for chilled, respectful guests who enjoy nature-connected living. Help is flexible — around 3–4 hours a day, 5 days a week, in exchange for accommodation. Short stays (5–10 days) are welcome to start, with the option to extend if it’s a good fit.
This would suit a person or couple who enjoy animals, gardens, creative projects, and coastal living — a great base for surfers, slow travellers, remote workers, and people who want a grounded, meaningful experience in southeast Tasmania.

Staying here is a chance to experience peaceful, everyday life in a beautiful coastal part of Tasmania. I’m happy to share what I’ve learned about transitioning from the corporate world into a slower, more intentional lifestyle focused on creativity, sustainability, and connection to the land.
There are regular social events at the local community house, including monthly open mic music sessions and casual coffee catch-ups, which are a great way to meet locals and get a feel for the friendly, community-oriented atmosphere. There’s also a strong surfing community here, with Carlton Beach and the local Surf Life Saving Club just down the road.
I enjoy conversations over coffee, a good wine or craft beer, and I love learning about different cultures, life paths, and creative passions. If you’re interested, I’m happy to chat about things like permaculture planning, garden design, neurodivergence, secondhand style, or upcycling projects — but there’s also plenty of space and quiet here for those who just want time to relax, explore, or recharge.
This is a welcoming space for people who appreciate nature, animals, community, meaningful conversation, and a grounded, low-key kind of exchange.
Ayuda
I’ve made a solid start on transforming the property, but there’s still plenty to do! Depending on your interests and skills, you could help with:
• Gardening
• Upgrading the studio bathroom (adding a shower and basin , tiling etc)
• Light landscaping or creative outdoor projects
• Helping feed or care for the animals

Alojamiento
You’ll stay in a cosy, private studio room in a large, modern shed. The space includes:
• A queen bed, heater, hand basin, and flush toilet
• A fridge and microwave, plus a big indoor fireplace
• Shower and full kitchen access inside the main house (just a few steps away)
• Excellent, reliable WiFi and a TV available for your use
• Plenty of quiet, space, and comfort for resting or remote work
There’s a bus stop about a 10–15 minute walk away, with regular service to Hobart, so a car isn’t essential — though it does give you more freedom to explore. Surfboards welcome!
