Welcome!
Hello, I'm Nick, and thanks for stopping by my profile.
I live on a peaceful 2.5-acre property in Phoenix, Arizona, where my family and I are creating a place focused on caring for animals, supporting local wildlife, growing food, and enjoying life outdoors. This project was inspired by a loved one who had a deep compassion for animals and nature, and that spirit continues to guide everything we do.
Our days are centered around simple but meaningful work. We care for the animals, maintain gardens, improve wildlife habitats, plant trees, and work on projects that make the property more welcoming for both people and wildlife. There is always something new happening, so no two days are exactly the same.
The property is home to my 9-year-old daughter and me, while my mother lives in another house on the property. There are also a couple of occupied rental homes and additional guest houses that are being finished. Although several families live here, volunteers mainly help with outdoor projects, animal care, gardening, and keeping the grounds looking their best.
If you enjoy being outside, you'll probably feel right at home here. We have fruit trees including oranges, lemons, apples, pomegranates, and kumquats, along with grapevines, herbs, vegetable gardens, and plenty of mature shade trees. Our irrigation system helps keep everything green, even during Arizona's hot summers.
Animals are a big part of daily life. We currently care for around 48 chickens, rabbits, a friendly German Shepherd, and a gentle Great Pyrenees. Throughout the year, many species of wild birds visit the property, making bird feeding and wildlife watching one of our favorite daily routines. Collecting fresh eggs, caring for the animals, and improving habitats are all regular activities.
Volunteers might help with gardening, landscaping, planting, light construction projects, organizing, animal care, cleaning outdoor spaces, or building new features for the property. We match projects to your interests and abilities whenever possible, and we're always happy to teach you something new.
Our home is relaxed and family-oriented. We value kindness, honesty, respect, and working together. Whenever we're cooking a family meal, you're welcome to join us. We also understand the importance of personal space, so you'll have time to relax and enjoy your independence as well.
If you're looking for a friendly place where you can spend time outdoors, learn practical skills, work with animals, and contribute to a meaningful project, we'd be happy to welcome you. We enjoy meeting people from around the world and sharing experiences, stories, and cultures while working together.
We hope to meet you soon! -

Intercambio cultural y oportunidades de aprendizaje
This is one of the most important sections on Workaway because it's about **what the volunteer will experience and learn**, not just the work they'll do.
Here's a version tailored to your property and foundation:
## Cultural Exchange
At the foundation, we believe Workaway is about much more than exchanging work for accommodation—it's about sharing experiences, learning from one another, and building lasting friendships.
As part of our family, you'll have the opportunity to experience everyday life in Arizona while living on a unique 2.5-acre property dedicated to wildlife conservation, gardening, and sustainable living.
We enjoy getting to know people from different cultures, backgrounds, and walks of life. We welcome the opportunity to learn about your traditions, favorite foods, language, and life experiences, and we love sharing ours in return.
During your stay, you can learn about:
* Wildlife conservation and habitat restoration
* Gardening in the Arizona desert
* Growing fruit trees, vegetables, herbs, and seasonal crops
* SRP flood irrigation and desert landscaping
* Caring for chickens, rabbits, dogs, and wild birds
* Sustainable property stewardship
* Homestead-style living
* Environmental conservation and nonprofit work
Our property is home to apple, orange, lemon, pomegranate, and kumquat trees, grape vines, tomatoes, herbs, seasonal vegetables, and beautiful gardens. You'll have the opportunity to help care for these plants and enjoy the harvest when they're in season.
Whenever we prepare a family meal, you're always welcome to join us at the table. We enjoy sharing meals, conversations, and stories, and we hope you'll feel like part of our extended family while you're here.
You'll also have plenty of free time to explore everything Arizona has to offer. Phoenix is surrounded by incredible hiking trails, beautiful desert landscapes, local farmers markets, museums, sporting events, and day trips to places such as Sedona, the Superstition Mountains, Saguaro Lake, and many other unique destinations.
We hope that by the time you leave, you'll have gained new skills, experienced Arizona's unique culture and environment, formed lasting friendships, and made a meaningful contribution to our foundation's mission of caring for wildlife, protecting nature, and creating a peaceful place where people and animals can thrive together.
For us, the best part of hosting is meeting wonderful people from around the world and sharing our home, our mission, and our love of nature. We hope you'll arrive as a volunteer and leave as a friend.
This kind of description fits very well with what Workaway encourages: cultural exchange, learning, community, and mutual respect. It also gives potential volunteers a clear picture of the experience they'll have both on your property and in Arizona. -

# The Kind of Help We'd Love
Every day is a little different here, which keeps things interesting. We enjoy hosting people who like being outdoors, don't mind getting their hands dirty, and are happy to pitch in wherever help is needed. We always try to match tasks with your interests and experience whenever possible.
### Animal Care
Our animals are part of the family, so helping care for them is an important part of daily life. Depending on the day, you might help with:
* Feeding and watering our chickens
* Collecting fresh eggs
* Cleaning chicken coops and runs
* Caring for our rabbits
* Spending time with our friendly German Shepherd and gentle Great Pyrenees
* Filling bird feeders and water stations
* Cleaning bird baths
* Helping create a welcoming environment for the many wild birds and other wildlife that visit the property
### Gardening & Outdoor Projects
If you enjoy gardening or simply like working outside, there are always seasonal projects to help with, including:
* Mowing with our John Deere riding mower
* Trimming and weed control
* Watering gardens, fruit trees, and flowers
* Planting vegetables, herbs, flowers, shrubs, and trees
* Harvesting seasonal fruits and vegetables
* Maintaining walking paths and outdoor spaces
* Assisting with irrigation when needed
### Property Improvements
We're always working on small projects to improve the property. Depending on the season, you may help with:
* Pressure washing patios and walkways
* Organizing tools and work areas
* Moving supplies and materials
* Cleaning and organizing storage areas
* Preparing garden beds and outdoor living spaces
* General outdoor cleanup and beautification
We're also finishing a couple of small guest houses on the property. Occasionally, there may be opportunities to help with cleaning, organizing materials, landscaping, or preparing the surrounding outdoor spaces. We don't expect anyone to do skilled construction work.
### Around the House
Since this is our family home, we all help keep shared spaces clean and comfortable. You might occasionally help with simple tasks such as:
* Washing dishes
* Tidying up after meals
* Light household cleaning
* Taking out recycling or trash
* Keeping common areas neat
### Who Will Enjoy Staying Here?
This experience is a great fit if you:
* Enjoy spending time with animals
* Like gardening or working outdoors
* Appreciate peaceful surroundings
* Are dependable and willing to help
* Enjoy learning practical skills
* Like meeting new people and sharing cultures
No previous experience is necessary. A positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and respect for others are far more important. We'll happily show you how we do things and work alongside you, making the experience enjoyable for everyone. -

Idiomas hablados
Inglés: FluidoEste anfitrión ofrece intercambio de idiomas
We believe that language is one of the best ways to connect with people from different cultures. While English is the primary language spoken in our home, we enjoy learning about other languages, customs, and traditions from our volunteers. As a Greek American family, we value hospitality, respect, and bringing people together. Sharing stories over a meal, working side by side on the property, and learning about each other's cultures are some of the most rewarding parts of hosting. If English is your second language, we're happy to help you practice in a relaxed, supportive environment. Likewise, we'd love to learn words, phrases, and traditions from your native language and culture. For us, Workaway is about much more than helping on the property—it's about building friendships, exchanging ideas, sharing experiences, and creating memories that last long after your stay has ended. We hope every volunteer leaves feeling like they were welcomed not just as a guest, but as part of our extended family. -
Alojamiento
That's another great benefit. It gives volunteers a way to get around and enjoy the property and the surrounding area.

## Additional Information
Thank you for taking the time to read about our home and what we're creating here.
We know that choosing the right Workaway host is an important decision, so we want you to have a clear idea of what life is like with us. Our goal is to provide a welcoming experience where everyone feels comfortable, respected, and included from the moment they arrive.
This is a peaceful, family-oriented home where kindness, honesty, and teamwork matter. We enjoy working alongside our guests, sharing meals when we can, learning from one another, and making the experience rewarding for everyone involved.
Our home is shared by me and my 9-year-old daughter, and my mother also lives in a separate home on the property. Because this is our family home, we ask everyone to treat the people, animals, and property with kindness and respect.
During your free time, you're welcome to borrow one of our bicycles, relax in the gardens, walk the path around the property, enjoy fresh fruit when it's in season, or simply unwind while watching the many birds and other wildlife that visit throughout the day.
There's also plenty to see around Phoenix. On your days off, you can explore hiking trails, lakes, museums, farmers markets, sporting events, and many of Arizona's beautiful parks and natural areas.
Volunteer hours follow the standard Workaway exchange of **up to 5 hours a day, 5 days a week**, leaving you with plenty of free time to relax or explore. We generally prefer stays of around a month or longer, as it gives everyone time to get to know each other and makes the experience more enjoyable for both hosts and guests.
Before confirming a stay, we like to have a phone or video chat so we can get to know one another, answer any questions, and make sure it's a good fit for everyone. We also ask guests to have completed profiles with references and to bring a valid government-issued photo ID upon arrival.
If you enjoy animals, gardening, nature, outdoor projects, and experiencing everyday family life, we think you'll feel right at home here. A positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and a desire to contribute are all that's really needed.
We hope you'll leave with new skills, wonderful memories, lasting friendships, and the satisfaction of knowing you made a positive difference while sharing life with our family.
We look forward to welcoming you and sharing our little corner of Arizona with you. -

Chickens (4 años)
Our chickens are an important part of our small homestead and the Remembering Ruth Wildlife Sanctuary. They are happy, well-cared-for birds that provide fresh eggs each day.
Volunteers may help with simple daily tasks such as:
Feeding and watering the chickens
Collecting fresh eggs
Cleaning and refreshing the coop and nesting boxes
Checking on the birds to make sure they are healthy and comfortable
No previous experience is necessary—we're happy to teach you everything you need to know. The work is enjoyable, and many guests love spending time with the animals. The eggs we collect help support our property, and a portion of the proceeds goes toward caring for our rescue rabbits, wild birds, and other animals through our wildlife sanctuary.
If you enjoy animals and nature, you'll likely find this to be one of the most rewarding parts of your stay.
