  This is one of the most historical places in Iceland. It is located in South Iceland around 1 hour drive from Reykjavík the capital. This was a bishop seat and center for learning and administration for over 700 years as well as a place of pilgrimage in medieval times. Today this is a place of culture, spirituality, and music where tourists both Icelandic and from different countries visit. Our Church is non profit and offer guided tours around the premises for tourists, and during summer there are cultural programs and festivals of music and religion. Year round there are cultural, educational, and artistic events and retreats.

  Learning new tasks and working skills

  Ayuda

  We need 2 people. We would like people to stay with us for a minimum of 3 months. Preferably for 4-5 months.
  
  For this summer we need 2 for the following tasks:
  
  Assistance to the janitor. Main tasks:
  Working outdoors to keep the site neat and clean
  Grass mowing and cutting with machinery
  Gardening, picking weeds, trimming trees ect
  General maintenance of the site.
  
  Assistance to the church wardens in the cathedral. The tasks of the church warden are versatile:
  Welcoming guests and giving information and guided tours
  Cleaning the church and the visitor center
  Open and closing the church daily
  Assist with ceremonies such as Sunday mass
  Assist during concerts in the church
  Assisting with social media and website
  
  If you are skilled with Instagram, Facebook, wix website, making short videos, taking pictures, etc. then you would be very useful to us.
  
  Our Workawayers need to have excellent communication skills and be fluent in English language. They also need to be independent, flexible and preferably older than 20 yrs old. This is an isolated place and people need to be self-sufficient and ready to stay in one place for long periods of time. The tasks vary and can change from day to day, so being flexible and capable of doing different kinds of tasks is important. You will be sharing a house with different people, so good communication skills and understanding of others is essential.
  
  This is an isolated place, wiht no publich transprotation. So you need to rely on getting a lift to the nearest bus station or town. It is important that the volunteers have other interests and are self-sufficient when it comes to entertainment.

  I can provide lessons in introduction to Icelandic language and culture to helpers if they are interested.

  Alojamiento

  A twin or dbl room in a house located by the church. Shared bathroom and kitchen with workers of the hotel and restaurant on the site.
  
  There is a kitchen in the house that the volunteers can use. We will go grochery shopping regularely where we can buy the food they like.

  The volunteers will stay on the Golden Circle, one of the most vistied tourist attraction of Iceland. Only a few hour driving distance are the most spectacular nature sights that tourists love to visit. Reykjavík city is 1 hour driving distance away.
  The helpers will get a bus pass that they can use to take public transportation. The public bus will not stop here, but a lift will be provided to the nearest bus stop (10 minutes drive away) Also our staff can provide lift to the nearby town or to Reykjavík on a regular basis.
  
  This is an isolated place as there is no public transport here. The voulunteers will not have a car provided but can get a lift to the nearest bus station with staff members.
