Descripción
Hi, I’m José Antonio from Melipilla, Chile. I live with my parents on a small piece of land (about 2,500 m²) next to our house. We call it our small-scale farm because we grow vegetables in a greenhouse that we recently built, berries, and fruit trees naturally and organically. My dad and I take care of most of the work. This small-scale farm follows regenerative and syntropic aspects, and at the end, I am trying to develop a natural ecosystem in my garden, adding our own vermicompost in the soil, planting byodiverse species of trees, same way as a bush, but edible.
We also work with one gardener who comes once a week to cut the grass and maintain some areas of the garden. The rest of the work we do ourselves.
We are not a business — we just enjoy working with nature and improving the soil. I would like to host Workawayers to share culture, language, and ideas, and to get some help in the garden while learning from each other.
You can learn about local traditions, cuisine, and our organic farming practices. My parents are very kind and only speak Spanish, so it’s a great place to practice the language and experience a genuine rural life in Chile.

Intercambio cultural y oportunidades de aprendizaje
Staying here is an opportunity to experience authentic rural life in Chile and learn about organic and regenerative farming directly on the land. You’ll discover our local traditions, food, and slow rhythm of life in the countryside — cooking together, sharing stories, and working with nature.
I also love exchanging ideas about farming methods, sustainability, and life abroad, since I’ve worked and lived in Canada and Australia. In return, I’d love to learn from your culture, language, and skills.
This is a place for mutual learning, respect, and connection with people.
Ayuda
You’ll experience Chilean countryside life and learn how we grow food in an organic and regenerative way. It’s a great chance to practice Spanish and share about your own country and culture too.
The help here is simple and relaxed. Things like watering, planting (fruit trees, veggies, native trees, herbs...), weeding, collecting fruits and veggies, helping with compost, keeping the area tidy, or small repairs like irrigation or wood projects.
We work mostly in the mornings, and after that, there’s free time to relax or explore.
In the afternoons or weekends, we can go climbing or surfing — my hometown is about 40 minutes from the beach. I love rock climbing, and there are some rocks nearby, so we can go rock climbing. I also built a small boulder wall at home, so you can try it if you like climbing!
For me, it’s always interesting to learn how people live and farm or lead their own lives in other places, so this is a true exchange — we all learn from each other.

I would like to learn a foreign language so that in the future I can use it if needed, in case I am travelling in that country.
Alojamiento
You’ll stay in my house, right next to the garden. It’s simple, calm, and surrounded by trees. Depending on how many people are here, you can have your own room or share. You’ll have access to the kitchen, bathroom, and outdoor areas.
We cook with our own vegetables and eat together most of the time. My parents live here and are very kind; they only speak Spanish, so it’s a good place to practice the language.
Algo más...
In your free time, there are many things to do around here. My hometown Melipilla is close to the beach (about 40 minutes by car), so we can go surfing or just enjoy the coast. There are also rivers, mountains, and nice places for hiking and climbing nearby.
At home, I recently built a small boulder wall, so if you like climbing, that’s something fun to do together. The area is calm and safe, great for reading, relaxing, or walking around.
Sometimes I travel for work, but during those times you’ll stay at the house with my parents. They are around 70, very kind and friendly, and will make you feel at home. They only speak Spanish, so it’s also a good way to practice the language and experience real Chilean family life.
There are local buses that connect Melipilla with Santiago (the capital) and the beach areas, so it’s easy to move around or plan small weekend trips.
