  Hello, my husband and I are both retired teachers. My husband taught highschool and I taught in the elementary school. We Iive in Lantzville , British Columbia on a property of 2.4 acres. That property has been divided into four lots . My son, his wife and three children, my daughter with her husband and two girls, another daughter and her husband and two young girls and my husband and I all live on the property.
  We share a garden with berries and veggies along with chickens and bees. We live about 100 steps from the ocean where swimming, paddle boarding , canoeing and walking takes place. We love being outdoors riding bikes, hiking and playing sports.
  We would love to host in the summer, a person who loves to be active in the outdoors and enjoys working in a gardens and a small greenhouse.
  We live close to Nanaimo which is much bigger than our small community and it is easily accessed by bus.
  We would love help with the planting, growing, weeding and picking of the garden in exchange for room and board along with experiencing a large family as well as explore both water and land recreation activities.
  We would hope that the person applying is a good worker, personable, enjoys children and is adventurous and wants to explore our area of Vancouver Island.

  Our family is close and large. We get together often and the grandchildren range from 3-21 years old. John and I have travelled to many parts of the world. He worked with the international program organizing the program at the highschool. We have hosted many students and see ourselves as being very welcoming and enjoy learning about different cultures. We also enjoy sharing our Canadian culture with others. We live in a rural area very close to a large town . We live on an island with so many outdoor activities available at our doorstep. Our children and their spouses as welcoming and too have hosted international students. We love getting to know people from around the globe. Our home stay guest will be treated like part of the family!
  Our family are friendly, active and inclusive.

  We are looking for someone to help with the vegetable gardens which may include preparing the garden or small greenhouse for planting,, weeding , mulching and harvesting depending on the time of year. There will be ample opportunity to learn gardening skills from myself while tending the garden . If interested in learning about both chickens and/or bee and bee keeping that too is an option

  We have a bedroom in our house for our exchange I will cook meals but will also share cooking if the exchange person would like to learn or share their cultures food.

  Other things that may be possible on time off my include travelling to Victoria ( capital city on British Columbia) , visiting our summer place on Piers Island, exploring by boat the area around our house, cycling, kayaking and paddle boarding in the ocean just 100 steps away from our house. The water in the summer is warm when the tide is coming in over the hot sand and rocks which is wonderful for swimming.
  We look forward to hosting a person in exchange for help with our family garden and yard work.
