The trust is in it's infancy but is set up by Isaac to help about 450 kids in 15 villages on the outskirts of Tiruvannamalai. Isaac works as a pharmacist until evening then takes to his bike to visit these villages throughout the week trying hard to provide basic education and care and fostering community development. It's a big task to take on and requires to be tackled systematically. Isaac is getting there with his annual plan/budget and themes of education for each month such as hygiene, environment, history/geography and tree planting but much work needs to be done.
If volunteers can bring pen, notebook, clothes or anythings for children it will be for sure usefull, but feel free to do it or not. Volunteers will go in one village to teach children, so it's good way to make link with children.
Isaac has big plans to build his own school and hospital to be used free of charge by those who cannot afford such services. HE URGENTLY SEEKS AN EXPERIENCED/ ENTHUSIASTIC FUNDRAISER TO COMMENCE THIS. It would be a great opportunity to get into a project right at the start and would look fantastic on your CV! If you can approach this creatively and come up with ideas to kickstart this whole project that would be amazing.
I am helping Isaac with this site which is new to him but I cannot honestly think of a more worthy cause and you you get to stay with a fantastically hospitable family in Tiru who will bend over backwards to meet your needs. The project really needs management. Anyone with good heart and imagination and who can't resist the smile of a gorgeous Tamil beauty would really appreciate this experience. Tiru is also a really popular spot for spiritual and not so spiritual seekers alike. The infamous Sri Ramana ashram is at the heart of the tourist bubble - famous for it's full moon pilgrimmages around the Shiva mountain. Loads of chai shops and the internet access is very near and a great mix of gringo meets mad India:) Really hope some of you give it a go - nothing to lose and everything to gain:)
As two others volunteers, we would like to add some new information about Isaac's project.
When you are volunteer in Isaac's house, there two ways to bring your help :
- Teach children about what it's write before
- Help Isaac in the organization and the management of his project
Moreover, you could also maybe help in his house, like gardening.
After a conversation with Isaac we thought that it could be better for volunteers to stay at least one month because it takes time to involve in this voluntary.
To help him in his project, we brought the idea to cook and sell food in order to get money for his project. This could be an action for volunteers but it has to be settle. What really need Isaac is someone who can create a website about all of this and a partner would be the best.
We created a link book, where we wrote more information for volunteers, it will be useful for every volunteers, please continue it.

As mentioned the trust is in it's infancy but has great expectations and enthusiasm. Help is needed organising the educational programme admin side and physically visiting the children in the villages each afternoon and working on establishing a routine lesson routine. It is proposed to go in one village and to work on one theme a month such as health/environment/geography and have lesson plans for the kids, as well as teaching the older kids how to teach the younger kids int he interim periods. Help is also needed fundraising for clothes/ medical and education supplies for the poorer villages.

Isaac will put you up in his traditional Tamil home. Accommodation is really basic but built with love! . You'll live with two young children. You'll have mosquito nets/ mattresses/ hot bucket showers....and you will be fed delicious Tamil food so you will never go hungry:)

Many spiritual seekers come to Tiruvanamali to sample the beautiful energy at Ramana Maharshi ashram and stay for the fabulous chats over steamy chai with new friends. There is lovely hiking, beautiful temples, great local hangouts and generally a great buzz and atmosphere about the place. Enough tourists so that it's comfortable but not too many that it's taken over:) 3 hours from Pondi and Chennai it's very accessibe and well worth the detour. We hope you love it as much as we do!

They are open to share the activity of teaching, and at the end one feels that has learnt a lot from their attitude and their generousity.
