The Basics: We are a professional lesbian couple (teachers--1 newly retired, 1 still working full time) living on eight acres with our dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, sheep and goats. Our farm is homestead-style, we don’t produce anything for market. Workawayers help tend a large, organic garden, do some morning and evening animal care chores, help with mowing, harvesting, watering and other farm jobs. Workawayers have the opportunity to help with small building projects, to learn to process poultry (not a requirement), and learn all kinds of things about livestock and gardening.
What is unique about our farm: we are a woman-run, LGBTQ-friendly space. We require fewer hours than most Workaway sites: 10 hours/week for individuals and 15 hours/week for couples. Aside from the animal chore schedule, which we set up by agreement, your schedule is generally very, very flexible. This allows Workawayers lots of free time to explore, work another job, take classes, etc. The reason we require fewer work hours is that we do not provide all your food. You can eat what grows here (eggs most of the year, whatever is in the garden, chicken if you help process it), but all your other food needs are your responsibility. We generally have a weekly all-farm dinner together.
Length of Stay: We'd love to have someone stay at least the length of one university term (3 months) but we've had two different couples each stay for 2 years, and that is by far our favorite arrangement.
Accommodations: We can host a single person or a couple in our guest quarters, a lovely one-room cabin close to the house that is well-insulated and easy-to-heat with a space heater or the wood stove. In the summer months we provide a fan, but it stays reasonably cool and is well-shaded. The furnished guest quarters includes a small sink (cold water only), and a spacious covered deck. All Workawayers have access to an upstairs bathroom in our home. There is a hotplate, hot water pot, and small refrigerator. Dish-washing happens in the utility sink in the garage. Every Workawayer gets their own laundry day where they have exclusive access to our laundry room.Tipos de ayuda y oportunidades de aprendizaje

Between the two of us we speak English, Portuguese, Spanish and German, and very much welcome any opportunity to use these languages. The Eugene, Oregon area is lively, especially for young people, with microbreweries and wineries, all kinds of local food production, harvesting, and culture, and lots of things happening in the arts. The University of Oregon offers vibrant academic communities, lots of things going on with environmental studies, food studies, gender and queer studies, and more. Climbing, backpacking, hiking, cycling (excellent!) and rafting/kayaking are all available and enthusiastically enjoyed by many locals.

This is a queer friendly Workaway site. You will need your own transportation, which could be, for very avid cyclists, a good bicycle. Most people find having their own vehicle very useful. There is a bus into Eugene with a limited schedule. Ask us about transportation options.
