Our project is inspired by an old Georgian tradition, where the whole village would come together to help one person build their house, harvest their land, or create something meaningful — all through shared work, food, and songs. We are reviving this spirit through earth building, permaculture, and community living.

Our place is located in Nichbisi, a quiet village surrounded by hills, forests, and open landscapes, not far from Tbilisi. Life here is slow and grounded. You wake up to fresh air, birds, and wide skies, and your days are spent working with natural materials, gardening, cooking together, and simply being present. It’s a place to reconnect with nature, your body, and other people.

We live here as a family, and the project is deeply personal to us. You’ll be sharing the space with us, our child, and sometimes friends, neighbours, or other local helpers who join during building days. Everyone has a role — from earth building and gardening to cooking, organising, and caring for the space. We work as a team, support each other, and value open communication and respect.

What we love most about this place is the sense of togetherness. Meals are shared, work is done collectively, and evenings often end with conversations, music, or quiet time under the stars. Volunteers are not treated as workers, but as part of the community. You’ll learn practical skills like earth building techniques and permaculture principles, but also experience a different way of living — simpler, more intentional, and deeply connected.

If you enjoy hands-on work, nature, learning traditional and sustainable practices, and being part of a small but meaningful community, we believe you’ll truly love being here

We work closely with four skilled local craftspeople who are part of our core team, helping bring the timber frames to life and shaping the tile roofs by hand. Whenever extra hands are needed, we invite neighbors to join us as well, so the work becomes a shared effort rooted in community. This way, every structure carries not just natural materials, but the spirit and care of the people who built it together.

  • Intercambio cultural y oportunidades de aprendizaje

Intercambio cultural y oportunidades de aprendizaje

At the project, cultural exchange happens through everyday life, shared work, and simple moments together.

Socially, Workawayers spend a lot of time with our family and team — cooking and eating together, working side by side, and sharing evenings after the workday. Sometimes we gather around a fire, listen to music, talk, or simply enjoy quiet time under the stars. When local friends or neighbors join us for building days or meals, Workawayers have the chance to connect with the village community and experience Georgian hospitality in a very genuine way.

In terms of skills and knowledge, we share practical experience in earth building techniques, natural plasters, and sustainable construction methods, as well as basic permaculture principles, gardening, and land care. We also share what we’ve learned about community living, organizing group work, and slowing down to live more intentionally. Everything is learned through practice — no formal lessons, but constant exchange while working together.

By hosting people from different cultures, we hope to learn as much as we teach. We are curious about other ways of living, building, growing food, and creating community. We value hearing different perspectives, traditions, and ideas, and we believe this exchange helps us grow — not only in skills, but also as people. For us, hosting is about mutual learning, respect, and building connections that go far beyond the time spent together.

At the project, Workawayers will be involved in a variety of hands-on, practical activities, mostly done together as a group. The work changes depending on the season and the stage of the project, but it is always collaborative and learning-based.

The main focus is earth building. Workawayers may help with preparing natural materials (clay, sand, straw), mixing earth, making and applying cob, plastering walls, and assisting in small construction tasks. No previous experience is required — we explain everything step by step, and skills are shared naturally while working side by side.

In addition to building, help is also needed in our permaculture garden and orchard. Tasks can include planting, mulching, watering, harvesting, composting, and general garden maintenance. This is a great opportunity to learn basic permaculture principles through practice.

Daily life tasks are also part of the experience. Workawayers may help with cooking healthy meals together, cleaning shared spaces, organizing tools, and taking care of the land. We value shared responsibility and see these tasks as part of community living, not separate from the project.

We usually work together, exchanging knowledge and learning from each other. If a Workawayer brings specific skills — such as carpentry, natural building, gardening, cooking, photography, or social media — there is space to contribute those skills as well. At the same time, curiosity, openness, and a willingness to learn are far more important than experience.

This project is best suited for people who enjoy physical work, being outdoors, teamwork, and living simply in nature. If you like learning by doing and sharing skills in a supportive, community-based environment, you’ll likely feel at home here.

  • Alojamiento

    Alojamiento

Accommodation is camping-based on our land, in a quiet and natural setting. We can provide tents if needed, but we strongly recommend that volunteers bring their own camping equipment (tent, sleeping bag, personal items) if possible, for their own comfort.

The camping area is safe, calm, and organized, and everyone has enough space and privacy. Living in tents is part of the experience and reflects the simple, nature-connected lifestyle of the project.

Food is included. We cook healthy, homemade meals together using seasonal, local ingredients, many from our garden. Cooking and eating together is an important part of daily life and community building here.

This place is best suited for volunteers who are comfortable with outdoor living, enjoy nature, and are open to simple, shared living in a respectful environment.
