OLIVE HARVEST - January 2027 in South of Spain

We are looking for two to four people to spend about a week with us during the olive harvest in January 27.

We are available for you to join us from 1st to 31st January 2027 . Depending on the year and how many olives there are to harvest, we might extend into December and/or February. Please contact us with your availability. We are looking for people to stay for about a week. If you´d like to stay longer and we have availability we can agree an extended period.
    ------

Hi! We are Claudia and Shane,

We call this place in the South of Spain our home since 2023. We lived in Manchester for over 20 years where we worked and raised our family. Originally we are from Germany and Zimbabwe. We are now in the beautiful las Alpujarras (South of the Sierra Nevada National Park - Granada province, Andalusia) to live a different lifestyle on our farmstead. We have recently bought some more land and olive trees adjoint to our property. While we were able to pick our olives ourselves in the last three years, we will need some help in 2027.
In the last three years we worked on the land, we have a eco vegetable garden, trees and chickens... We own two cortijos surrounded by a lot of land and several terraces with olive and almond trees. One of the houses is our home and the other one has been a successful rental on Airbnb and Booking since 2025. This would be your accommodation for the duration of your stay.

The Alpujarras are known for their laid back atmosphere and you can find rural Spain here in the white washed mountain villages.

We believe this is a special place, with a peaceful atmosphere for everyone to escape the busy every day live, be close to nature (see the sun rise, the moon cycles, mountains, trees, birds...) and let yourself rest and recharge while you stay here.

Intercambio cultural y oportunidades de aprendizaje

We speak some Spanish and are still learning... we have started to integrate with the local community and love the cultural events in the surrounding villages. It would be great to take you along on our excursions. We have Spanish neighbours and friends in the village and take part in regular activities like language classes and yoga.

We grow and harvest the olives in the traditional Spanish way. This gives you a good insight on how the "liquid gold" is produced in a ecological and natural way.

We are keen to share everything we have learned so far and welcome any input. We can take you along to local activities and are like to visit the countless fiestas in our village and the surrounding area.

Saturdays you can join us for a walk/hike and maybe have a drink and some tapas while we’re out - or do your own thing.
Sunday is a day to rest. (Days without work can vary, depending on your arrival, preference and the weather)

There are several bars in the village next to us and you can enjoy your evenings going out or chilling at your cortijo.

    Olive Harvest

You will work with us and help shake the olives from the tree. This is done with a machine and manually with combs. We will then pick the olives out of the nets and remove leaves before putting them in sacks.

Nets will have to be carried, moved and the sacks of olives will be transported to the main house, if you are interested you can come to the press with us and see the process in action when we drop the olives off.

The terrain is on terraces with some of the ground not being level. Reasonably fitness is required.

We will expect you to work 5 hours a day, depending on the weather we will discuss the exact time when you arrive. There is time for breakfast in the morning and we will provide a simple lunch. Afterwards you have some free time and can enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the Alpujarras.

  • Alojamiento

    Alojamiento

    Accommodation:
You will stay in your private cortijo with large terrace and outside area that has a pool and the most beautiful views (it will very likely be too cold to use the pool, but guests have used it for cold plunges, if you are brave enough). Two bedrooms (1 double bed & 1 with two single beds), kitchen, bathroom, living room with chill out area and tv.
We would expect that you look after your accommodation and leave it as you've found it. Washing machine, Fridge and cooking facilities for your personal use.

WiFi provided. Good mobile signal available.

We provide you with ingredients for a simple breakfast which you can prepare in your kitchen and enjoy at your house or on your terrace with a fantastic view.
We make a simple lunch (mainly vegetarian using whatever we can from our own land). Vegan meals or special dietary requirements can not be provided currently.
The evening meal is not included.

If you stay for a week:
We would want you to work five days out of the seven day stay. Two extra days stay at our rental property are included (most likely Saturday and Sunday). Food is not provided on those days but we will advise on how to purchase ingredients for self preparation or where to get affordable meals in the village (Válor) nearby - 20 minute walk.

  • Algo más...

    Algo más...

We live 20 minutes walk from Valor, our village, which has a small shop, pharmacy, post office, bank and a few restaurants and bars (opening times vary). The main attraction to this place is that it is peaceful, relaxed with traditional Spanish surroundings. Great place for walking/hiking and to escape the busy every day life.

Pick up from nearest bus station is included. If you need to be picked up at the airport (Almeria) or at the coast (should you fly to Malaga, there are buses to Adra where we could pick you up), we need to charge for fuel. From Granada there are two buses daily which stop in Válor directly. We are happy to give you a lift to a larger supermarket in Ugijar to do shopping.

We are looking forward to hearing from you. Please include as much detail as possible. Thanks!
