We are a 100-acre farm, community, bamboo plantation and eco-hotel in Livingston Guatemala, based on Permaculture and on the principles peace, happiness and plenitude.

    Currently we have:
    - 5 acres of established banana, coconut and fruit orchards, to sustain the community as well as produce value added products for income.
    - 35 acres bamboo, to supply our main industry: sustainable construction materials, furniture and other crafts.
    - Several acres of new permaculture gardens and Food Forests

We are also establishing: Cacao, coffee, ginger, taro, jackfruti, pineapple and other fruit plantations, a goat herd, apiculture, eco-hotel/glamping areas, natural pools, aquaculture, nature hikes (caves exploration, bird watching)

We are a Model for Rural Development, where we:
    - employ and train locals from the two neighboring villages and the greater Livingston area,
    - produce healthy food and sustainable materials for our projects and the local community and beyond,
    - protect and regenerate natural ecosystem both on the property and the neighboring nature reserve, and
    - provide an educational model that others can replicate.

Of course, we want volunteers who share our ideals. But most importantly, we are looking for skilled and experienced volunteers and possibly longer-term members. Therefore, we require all applicants to:

    1. Commit to one-month minimum, after passing a one-week trial period.
    2. Complete an application (to be emailed after initial contact).
    3. Be older than 23.
    4. Be willing to do hard work in the heat of the tropics and be presentable enough to greet city guests (wear pants, take showers).
    5. Be adaptable with diet. This land and climate provides banana, coconut, platano, nyame, malanga and various fruits in abundance. If volunteers want vegetables, bread or other imported goods they are responsible themselves.
    6. Be clean and responsible. This is a working farm, not a vacation. The other residents are paid, full-time workers with their own responsibilities. No one is going to clean up after you, or sort out your seeds or compost from the kitchen, or put away your tools or personal belongings. Keep your living/eating area clean or we won't be able to have you.
    7. Contribute a valuable skill, ideally related to:
    - goats (herding and milking)
    - food preservation (drying, fermenting, canning, etc.)
    - development of value-added products (e.g. goat cheese, fruit jams, etc.)
    - carpentry, gardening, livestock keeping
    - Hotel managing, guest services
    - or other skills that contribute to our goals (suggestions welcome.)

We also need hard workers to dig roads and swales, clear jungle, carry bamboo, plant trees, etc. Therefore, we will only invite volunteer applicants that meet the above requirements, and most of all, during the trial period, that exhibit passion for the land and the project.

Hiking, cave-exploring, swimming, bird-watching are all possible throughout our place and neighboring reserve. The are also remnants of Mayan civilization throughout the area, with a small archaeological site dating to 200BC, and pottery and obsidian shards often visible when digging.

The nearby town of Livingston has a unique cultural blend (Garifuna, Mayan and Guatemalan) and is a popular tourist location, with restaurants, nightlife, shopping, waterfalls and hotsprings.

It is located in the village of Buenavista Miramar, which is accessible only by boat from Livingston. Livingston in turn is only accessible by boat from Puerto Barrios (Q50, 30min) or Rio Dulce (Q125, 1hr 20min).

The climate is tropical, hot and wet. Temperatures reach 36°C and annual rainfall is 3000-4000mm.

Dogs, cats and other small pets can be had, but you have to remember this is a wild jungle area. There are predators, so you have to take care of your pet. Also, all cleaning and looking after them has to be performed by yourself.
