Blandine and Alex were fantastic hosts, and I felt very comfortable staying with them for the past three weeks. They are kind, considerate, and always made sure I had everything I needed. I especially appreciated their generosity in covering transportation costs in Zurich and allowing me to help myself to anything in the fridge. I had my own room
… read more with a private bathroom and a separate entrance, which gave me a lot of freedom and privacy. Additionally, they covered the costs of groceries for cooking - which I did almost every day and really enjoyed as I could try a few new recipes.
The stay was overall very positive, though there are a few points future helpers might want to keep in mind. Their older child can be a bit stubborn and challenging at times, so having experience with children is definitely a must. The nights were occasionally restless, which left me feeling tired during the day. The tasks were quite packed – mornings were dedicated to cleaning and babysitting, afternoons to cooking, and evenings to cleaning up and somtimes babysitting – which often left little time for personal activities. Sometimes, appointments were added to the calendar but then not followed through, which created some confusion about when and where I was needed.
That said, I always had Sundays off, which gave me the chance to explore Zurich. While most of my time was dedicated to household duties – something I didn’t mind as I genuinely enjoy helping – it might not be the best fit for someone with a big desire to explore the City and it's surroundings. On a positive note, they were very accommodating of my own schedule and even compensated me for extra work.
I would highly recommend Blandine and Alex to anyone who enjoys helping around the house and is great with children. I'm greatful for this wonderful first workaway experience - thank you!
Marlies stayed with us for 3 weeks and was a fantastic help around the house. Her cooking and cleaning skills are top-notch! She's like a professional in the kitchen, even mastering tricky recipes like baklava and carrot cake. She even baked a delicious cake for my child's birthday! Marlies is a lovely person and clearly likes children, although she hasn't had much experience with them besides her younger brother. While she played with the kids for short periods, I wasn't able to give her more responsibility in that area. This meant she had less babysitting experience compared to previous workawayers we've hosted.
Marlies is very reliable in completing all her tasks, but I did notice a tendency to be late when it came to time-sensitive matters. For example, she would sometimes start her tasks a few minutes late, often due to taking time for breakfast. In the future, it would be helpful if she could have breakfast earlier or let us know if she's running a little behind.
Overall, we had a great experience with Marlies and would recommend her to other hosts!
Additional Note: Marlies was also very respectful of our privacy and was always discreet, which we really appreciated.

Silvia always did what we asked and was on time. She is very efficient and reliable. Sometimes she needed a little extra help to remember everything, but she was always happy to learn. She was amazing with the kids, kept the house very clean, and cooked good food. She even gave our sons a swimming class! The only thing that needed a bit more attention was the laundry (repeating many times how to fold, stain removal,...) and attention for details. Silvia always respected our privacy and she knows how and when to give us space as a family.
Overall, Silvia was fantastic, very kind interesting and nice to have around and we would definitely recommend her to other families!

Julia - An Absolute Gem of a Workawayer!
Julia joined our family in Zurich for 6 weeks in February and quickly became an invaluable member of our household. From the start, she was incredibly nice and cheerful, bringing a positive energy to our home.

… read more wonderful help. Her delicious Brazilian cooking, with its focus on meat, rice, beans and salads, added a welcome variety to our meals.
Julia's true shining quality was her incredible connection with our children. She absolutely adores kids, especially our 4-month-old baby! When our 3-year-old unfortunately caught the flu, Julia went above and beyond to help us protect the baby from contagion. She spent extra time caring for him, ensuring he was happy and well-cared for, even exceeding the agreed-upon 25 hours per week – and without ever mentioning it! We were so grateful for her dedication and, of course, compensated her for the extra effort.
Beyond her childcare skills, Julia embraced life in Zurich, even with the cold and snowy weather! She was a joy to have around, always bringing a smile to our faces.
We wholeheartedly recommend Julia to any host family looking for a caring, responsible, and enthusiastic workawayer. She's truly a gem!

Aika took full charge of managing our household tasks, including laundry, tidying, and cleaning. She even tackled the challenge of cleaning our large terrace. Every
… read more evening, she delighted us with delicious Japanese cuisine, making dinner time a highlight of our day.
Although Aika arrived with some experience in childcare, she quickly adapted to care for our 7-month-old son. Within a few days, we felt confident entrusting her with his care. Impressively, she even managed to put him to bed, which is something my husband has had difficulty with. Kudos to Aika for her remarkable patience and skill to take care of babies!
Aika is very polite, discreet and always willing to help to assist with any task. Her positive presence and helpful attitude made a significant impact on our daily lives!
We felt entirely comfortable leaving Aika in charge of our apartment for five days while we went on holiday. Her trustworthiness and responsibility allowed us to enjoy our trip without any concerns and when we came back our place was super cleaned!
In summary, Aika has been an outstanding Workaway guest, and we are grateful for her contributions. We highly recommend her to anyone seeking a dedicated and reliable helper.

Dorothy stayed with us for one month, and we had such a positive experience with her. She is a very kind and pleasant person to have around. Dorothy fell in love with our baby and enjoyed spending time with our family and kids, making her presence warm and friendly. … read more local art museums and the botanical garden, which she thoroughly enjoyed.
When it comes to work, Dorothy is incredibly reliable and trustworthy. She always delivered on her tasks, often going above and beyond, especially with cleaning. Our house was spotless every day, and the daily laundry was always handled efficiently. We had to remind her to take breaks because she was so dedicated to her chores.
Dorothy needed to be careful with her back pain and for instance I would not want her to lift my kids who are both heavy for her back. But then I couldn't leave home leaving the baby for extended periods. She was initially not confident in cooking for the whole family. But once she decided to give it a try, she prepared simple and delicious meals that suited our tastes perfectly!
We recommend Dorothy to future host families. Just be mindful of her age, as our family’s rhythm and the workload is quite intense with our family style and two small kids.
Overall, Dorothy’s kindness, reliability, and genuine interest in our family and cultural experiences made her a delightful Workaway guest.

While Anson had initially informed us that she lacked experience in caring for babies, her willingness to learn allowed her to quickly adapt. She was able to confidently look after our 5-month-old baby for a couple of hours when needed, which was immensely helpful.
One of Anson’s few limitations was her cooking skills, a detail she told me before her arrival. Though she attempted cooking once, it was clear that her passions lie elsewhere. However, this was never an issue for us, as she excelled in other areas, particularly in keeping our home mega clean. Anson’s attention to detail in cleaning was remarkable; our house was always tidy, with laundry and everything in its right place.
Beyond her work ethic, Anson is a discreet and intriguing individual. Conversations with her were always engaging and insightful, adding a wonderful dynamic to our household. Her presence was not only a help but a joy.
Her discreet nature and independence were evident. She appreciated our efforts to make her feel at home, particularly enjoying a visit to our local Chinese restaurant, a comforting reminder of home during her year-long journey in Europe.
Overall, Anson was an great Workawayer. Her blend of childcare abilities, meticulous cleaning standards, and delightful company made her stay with us really enjoyable.

Also the help was very fair and if you don’t do your tasks completely slowly, you will certainly stay under 25 hours per week ;)
In general, I was able to divide up the tasks independently, which gave me a lot of freedom in my time off.
In addition, Blandine and Alex were always totally accommodating and flexible when I planned longer trips, which I really appreciate.
Anyway, they both gave me lots of tips to explore Zurich and surroundings, which made me see a lot, even though I got such a bad luck with the weather!
Besides, I also enjoyed the time at home. Whether in English, German or French I had nice conversations with all the family members, had a lot of fun playing with Aiden (who I really closed in my heart:)), learned new recipes and was able to chill alone in my room if I wanted some time for myself.
All in all, I can recommend this workaway to anyone who wants to travel to Switzerland on a low budget and would like to live with a lovely, sociable and open-minded family.

Philine is a wonderful person! She showed herself to be dependable, taking on tasks with enthusiasm and care. Philine's warm and friendly nature was wonderful to have around, especially with our child, even though she was new to babysitting she really progressed and learnt to play with him and make good friend.
When we faced the tough situation
… read more of our baby being in the hospital one day after she arrived, Philine took initiative around the house, keeping things running perfectly which was a massive help to us!!! We were managing two kids one at home this other one in hospital in severe condition 2h away from our house. Her sensitivity, help and respect during this time didn't go unnoticed. When I came back after 9 days from the hospital, my house was perfectly cleaned, food was ready and delicious,... Just thank you!
Overall, Philine would be a great match for hosts looking for a heartfelt and earnest helping hand. Her contribution while with us left a positive mark, and we'd certainly welcome her back anytime!

Aiden is an ABSOLUTELY😉 adorable almost three year old. I had such a fun time with him and we hit it off really well from the very beginning. I really love the multicultural exchange aspect of the stay. Blandine speaks French to Aiden and Alex German, so even though they speak English at home to each other, I got to teach Aiden some of his first English words and also learn some French and German too! (The way he says “absoluuut-ly…”😍😂🥰
I would absolutely recommend anyone stay with this family. They really do think of everything. The food provided was delicious and they accommodate to any dietary preferences you have. (I don’t have any, I’m a foodie and love pretty much everything😂) But every time they would grocery shop they would invite me to go along and pick out things I wanted, or ask for lists or preferences to make sure I would have things I wanted or needed. And I got to cook often too which I love!
I think I was their first workawayer so far, but I honestly can’t say enough how great of a job they did making me feel welcome and comfortable and appreciated. We had a fantastic experience with Katie. It was so great that she stayed 7 weeks instead of 4 weeks.
Katie's mission was to support us to welcome our second baby. She was helping us pre and post partum. We don't know how we would have done without her!!! She has helped us so much!

When she arrived after one hour playing with my 3 years old son, he was laughing a lot! Katie took care of babysitting my son, cleaning and daily tasks. She is also a wonderful cook!!! Everything was done with a lot of professionalism. Also she planned her travels and liked going out in the evening sometimes. She made new friends in a week. When she would be home, she would stay independent in her room most of the time.
We are planning to renew the experience with her whenever she wants to be back :)
