What a wonderful experience it was hosting Anna and Félicien. It certainly was a cultural exchange in every direction and we enjoyed their company immensely. We stayed at Anushka and Nigel's place for a week in mid January 2025. It was our first experience as workawayers and we had a wonderful time.
At the time of our stay, work mainly consisted of digging foundation holes for the wooden deck roof and weeding around the garden.
Work usually started at 10:00am with a long lunch break which allowed

Anushka & Nigel have a lot to teach from their experiences of renovating and building houses around the world and their place in Tarata is a piece of art in itself.
(We particularly enjoyed the view of Mt Taranaki at Sunset)
We enjoyed long conversations during dinner and were offered delicious food during the whole time of our stay.

Tim was a pleasure to have. He worked incredibly hard and every job (they were all backbreaking tasks) were completed to standards that exceeded our expectations. Anushka and Nigel are really kind and smart well travelled people who offer a lovely place to stay with delicious food and some interesting conversations.
I stayed for a week, had timeoff and was free to choose at what time of the days I wanted to do the work which itself was pretty much as described in the description.

What charming girls this trio turned out to be. It was so much fun sharing Kiwi Christmas with them and learning about their own cultural experiences. They completed all jobs we asked for and left the apartment in excellent condition.

They have an amazing house, which they built on their own with a big beautiful garden where you can relax on sunny days. The tasks they gave us where easy to do and they always made sure that we wouldn't have to work during high sun radiation and not more than 3-4 work hours per day. Anushka supplied
… read more us with delicious food for every lunch and dinner and sometimes even gave us snacks during work. They hosted us over christmas, which was a great way to get to experience new zealand christmas with a traditional (delicious as always) christmas eve dinner (for us germans) and a christmas lunch like you do it in NZ. Playing games with them was also fun:)
Anushka and Nigel are amazing people you can have interesting and instructive conversations with. We would always come back to spend more time with them and would totally recommend doing a workaway here!

It was a delight to host Tammes and Falco for a week. They were incredibly hard working and completed tasks with minimal instructions and required no supervision. After sleeping in our campervan for almost 2 months, it felt so good to have a proper place to stay.
It honestly exceeded our expectations,
we had a whole small apartment with a tv, a small kitchen and our own bathroom, which was a big upgrade compared to the car.

We really liked working for Anushka and Nigel, because of the huge amount of hospitality we got in return:
The meals that Anushka cooked for us were absolutely delicious and we often talked about many different topics, like their past or things that go on in our lives, which included also many poker or board game nights.
We both were really big fans of how flexible our schedules were (we could start working whenever we wanted) and were even urged to take our breaks, so no one that works there will overwork themselves.
All in all we really enjoyed our time there and will come back in the future, if the opportunity presents itself.

We had the most amazing time staying with Anushka and Nigel. Such genuine and lovely people, we felt welcomed straight away in their wonderful home. Right out in the sticks and surrounded by newly planted trees and saplings making it so peaceful and tranquil and even a view of Mt Taranaki. The house itself was a treasure trove of artwork and

We also had the best conversations over dinner, about their travels around the world, politics, NZ environmental policies and more! The food was great too, we were definitely well fed with delicious home cooking.
Anushka and Nigel were very good natured with their work timings and thier personal space. We were set to start no earlier than 10am on work days, which we were more than happy to oblige, and after a rousing dinner and heated conversation we were sent off to bed in our adorable sleep out to watch movies. The sleepout was fully kitted out with kitchenette, immaculate bathroom and a TV with a huge range of dvds, there was limited WiFi and no signal but it was just the perfect space for two people.
Work wise we did a bit of weeding, shovelling and moving gravel, compacting said gravel, grouting tiles in the hallway, Jo helped Nigel build a wooden frame for future concreting works on their porch and Bertie did some sewing to make bedsheets smaller. A real variety of work!
