For a thousand years, Tibet was called the “Land of Medicine” by its neighbors. It is in this spirit that ” Our mission is to offer a unique healing center focused on harmonizing both western and eastern medicine. We specialize in Tibetan medicine, Ayurveda and holistic traditions.
Our sister organization was founded at the request of His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama. After our property was donated in 2002, we have worked together to continue his wish to provide a long-term cultural embassy and institution to ensure the survival of Tibetan civilization and culture. In 2006 the Dalai Lama visited here for a Health & Longevity Conference. He blessed the land and believes that we will continue to become a thriving resource for health, healing, and spiritual evolution.
Known as Tibet in the Catskills we try our best to expose our staff our staff and volunteers to much of our programming. We also provide regular meditation, yoga and Tibetan Buddhism Classes.
This season we have work available in our organic, vegetable garden with our head gardener who instructs on specific tasks such as; propagation, planting, watering, weeding, harvesting, permaculture techniques, medicinal herbal production and other special garden projects. The garden team is also responsible for planting and maintaining several beautiful flower gardens around the center. 2019 will also see more ecological restoration work along our stream, and the grounds. We are focusing on invasive species removal and planting native species in their place. Produce goes to the kitchen, for use in the dining hall! The garden is a lush oasis in the high season. Guests often stop in to walk around and admire it’s beauty, ask questions and maybe have a little snack right from the source.
We also are looking for volunteers to help regularly with our maintenance team. Volunteers who are part of our facilities department will work side by side with our head of maintenance as well as our on site property caretaker learning the ins and outs of what it takes to keep our small facility running efficiently. Our team is responsible for maintaining and updating our structures as well as our roads and network of hiking trails. This season we are focusing on a lot of building restoration projects. Experience with painting/staining, tractors, carpentry, electric, plumbing and fruit tree pruning a plus!
From time to time our Kitchen and housekeeping departments also need a hand with room turnovers, prep and space setup we ask that volunteers be flexible with helping out where it’s needed in our small community.
We ask for 5 hours of help a day in exchange for meals and accommodations and are looking for volunteers who can give us a commitment of 3 weeks to 3 months. When retreats are here breakfast, lunch and dinner will be prepared and served in the main hall (the food is outstandingly delicious and healthy). When there are no retreats we provide lunch daily, and all of the basics plus whatever you want from the garden to cook for yourself or team up with other staff.
Accommodations vary according to retreat schedules but volunteers will usually be a room in a shared furnished house or in dorm style accommodations. Most rooms are shared with a single bed for each volunteer. During the summer months volunteers are also more than welcome to bring their own camping setups. Many of our seasonal staff choose this option to immerse themselves in the wonderful nature our location provides. We have tent platforms and most of those locations have Wifi access. If volunteers choose to camp we do have indoor housing available if there are any extreme weather conditions. We also offer many communal areas for relaxation and device charging. Our newly renovated camping and dorm bathrooms are about a two minute walk from the camp site.
*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️ Please note that camping is seasonal. Any Volunteers staying with us in the colder months will be placed in indoor housing. All facilities are fully furnished, include organic linens and high speed wifi. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate children or pets.

Our local town of Phoenicia New York has tubing on the river and more, so come prepared! Volunteers have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of living and working , including access to some of the workshops and teachings offered (note: not all retreats are open to staff and Volunteers) We also provide regular meditation and Tibetan Buddhism Classes. We are always happy to pick people up at the Trailways of New York or UCAT bus lines at the bus stop in Phoenicia. So travel in and out of our facility is easy. We also provide staff vehicles to those who have valid drivers licences to travel to local grocery stores and towns.
