Descrição
We are a couple in our 50s building a self-sufficient smallholding in the Sarthe region. Our current projects include completing a tyre wall, a solar greenhouse, and a composting system—all part of our journey toward sustainability and, eventually, establishing a training centre in sustainable horticulture. You’ll be helping alongside my partner Malcolm, a soil scientist and horticulturist with a wealth of knowledge to share.
We welcome singles, couples, and travel buddies. While we’re an English-speaking household, I’m also fluent in French, and we eat mainly vegetarian meals. You will need appropriate footwear and clothing for outdoor work.
Please note: We’re not an Airbnb—if you confirm your stay, we make concrete plans, so reliability is important to us. We aim to reply ASAP, but Workaway doesn’t always notify us of new messages, and we don’t check daily. If you don’t hear back within 3 days, please message us again!Tipos de ajuda e oportunidades de aprendizado

Native english speaker who has lived & worked in france for last 20 years (as a school chef) so can help with your english and french vocabulary as well as your cooking skills!
I also have a part time business making artisanal soy candles and a gite (holiday accomodation) on site, and am happy to share my knowledge of these areas with you.
My partner Malcolm is a soil scientist and horticulturalist who is currently setting up a sustainable and self sufficient enterprise and he is keen to share his knowledge in composting, sustainable farming practices and habitat management.Ajuda
Tasks vary from gardening and animal care to renovating our large, old house, which still needs plenty of work. Help build a solar greenhouse and year round growing space.
We need to finish a tyre wall, which will act as a heat sink for a solar greenhouse. We are also constructing a composting operation to supply our needs and as a training resource for courses in sustainable farming,
I also have holiday accomodation (gite) with a large garden and can use help at times with general gardening, hedgetrimming & weeding. You will need appropriate footwear and clothing for outdoor work.
Ideal for couples with mixed skills. Lots of unskilled work as this is a large property - maintenance, veggie plot, grass cutting, animals, firewood. Ideal period of stay is 10 days to 2 weeks.Idiomas

Malcolm quickly saw where his skills could be used most efficiently, he worked both independently and with me and produced results that fit in with my style. He helped with fencing to keep livestock in their fields and made "pretty fencing" that matches my rustic style to keep chickens out.… read more
