[April 21st 2026 Update: currently recruiting for one volunteer (would consiser a couple) for a 4 month workstay beginning as early as May 1st]
The Retreat is a 40 acre off grid homestead and clothing optional Retreat Center applying a mix of permaculture and other sustainability principles to our stewardship of this land. We host guests at 10 sites ranging from furnished a Cabin or Bell tent to primitive campsites. We have very social weekends sharing evenings in a geodescic dome sauna and fire circles.
May+ 2026 we are constructing an ada accessible cabin and need help maintaining operations to free Dustin to focus on the build.
We are currently looking for an exceptional individual who is passionate about off-grid living, sustainability, and embracing the untamed beauty of nature. Our homestead is a place where dreams are woven into reality, where the sound of waterfalls and the rustling of leaves become your daily symphony.
Dustin has a background in Mechanical Engineering, has a Permaculture Design certification and has a love for exploring diverse cultures. He embarked on a journey across 30+ countries, seeking simple truths and perspectives. Now, he's inviting you to join him in creating a space of cathartic serenity.

Our 40 acres is in a mountainous (by Alabama standards) forest with waterfalls, wildlife and private swimming holes surrounded by miles more of Talladega National forest.

$150 / week pay each Thursday
Responsibilities:
[ ] Flipping the furnished sites (12-2pm on days guests check out)
[ ] Cleaning and restocking Privies and Sinks (weekly on Wednesdays)
[ ] Leaf Blowing Trails and sites, everything between the swimming hole and P3 (weekly on Thursday)
[ ] Cleaning and organizing the Lounge Pavilion and outdoor kitchen (weekly on Friday)
[ ] Cleaning the hot tub, sauna and main fire ring (weekly on Friday)
[ ] Deliveries when guests pre order firewood etc.
[ ] Firewood splitting and stacking
[ ] Helping with build projects, lumberjacking or other activities I'm doing if I have a need and ask or you want to join in.
[ ] Weekly reflection & Planning meeting
Joint gardening efforts and sharing of the produce.

Max spent a couple of weeks with us on our Homestead. He was hard working, able bodied and had skills that were very helpful improving our road, clearing timber and doing woodworking for cabin siding.
