    Description

I would like to invite you to come and join us in Portugal to plant a lot of trees. Our place is 18 hectares consisting mostly of hillside with nice views and forested floodland next to the river Seixe. When we started there was completely nothing; no road, water, electricity and internet. In the meantime we have built these amenities, but unfortunately last summer we were hit by a bushfire.

On August the 7th 2023 the Seixe river valley has been hit by a devastating wildfire consuming 8.400 hectares of amazing, biodiverse forest. Our 18 hectare land was part of the affected area. The Seixe River Valley was representing 3% of all the biodiversity of Portugal and although much of it will recover, a lot is severely damaged and might not recover to it’s former splendour for several centuries when not supported by us, humans.

Between september 2023 and may 2024 we have seeded and planted thousands of trees in more than 1100 growtrays. Local schools and volunteers have helped us collecting the acorns and seeding them into grow trays after which we started preparing for the first Grow Planting Camp March and May 2024. Together with over 60 volunteers we have reforested over 12 hectares. The second Camp we had in October 2024. We have seeded 30.000 oak trees which are now spouting and growing in our shadehouse over the winter.

This spring on 15th March we're kicking off our third reforestation camp. We will planting out all of the seedlings. The camp will finish 10 th of May.

We will be with many people, so it's going to be a nice gathering of like-minded souls from all over the world. It will be a planting camp and accomodation will be in big army tents (2x 5x10 meter) with a campkitchen and bathrooms & shower closeby.

A big nutritious meal will be cooked for lunch. At dinner and breakfast you can grab what you want from the pantry (or organize cooking with the others). We ask for 45 euro per week to cover the costs of the food, this covers all meals + fruits for the whole week including weekend.

We'll be planting Monday-Friday 3 hours per day, from 9 to 12 in the morning. After this we'll have lunch and then the day is yours to chill out, walk the land, go to the beach or whatever suits your needs at that moment ;).

We are located in rural Portugal close to small coastal Town Odeceixe. Many people farm the traditional way and there are many traditional crafts and products to experience. There is the Rota vincentina walking route and several markets which you can go to. Also there is a large international community present of which many are living a more self sustainable life all in their own way. You can learn how to seed and plant many trees, and maybe some DIY stuff. We will work 3 hours a day, 5 days a week and in the weekend we will be free.

Planting, planting and planting :). The work is physically demanding and planting will be done on the hillsides. The tasks will be consisting of: making holes, distributing grow trays, planting trees, watering and mulching. There will also be DIY tasks, such as improving the shade house, camp or any odd task that needs taken care of. These tasks can be shared around amongst the team so there's some change.
