Description
HOUSESITTING from 4th to 19th October (mainly caring for two cats and a dog, looking after chickens and collecting eggs and watering tasks). General workaway volunteering before and after this time also welcome.
General workaway from 19th October until beginning December. We do our olive harvest towards the end of November.
Are you fit, strong and enthusiastic? Do you like the outdoors? We like to think that the people who come to visit us can learn something about off-grid living and organic methods of farming/horticulture in a beautiful, relaxing setting in our little corner of the Alpujarra.
We are a couple who took early retirement from education. We live in a beautiful setting 3km above the town of Orgiva in the Alpujarras. We built, with the help of local Spanish builders, our house, with pool, and now need help with our 69 organic acres. We enjoy walking, listening to music, reading, sewing, the odd outing and more recently our new granddaughter!
There are olive, almond, vines and various fruit trees to tend, land to be cleared, wood to be gathered and sorted, fruit and vegetables to be grown and animals such as chickens, turkeys, dogs and cats to be cared for. Sometimes we have an orphan lamb or two to be bottle fed. We are almost self-sufficient. There are various projects on the go and things to do around the house. We are completely off-grid but comfortable none-the-less.
If you arrive in your own vehicle please appreciate that we live 2km up a dirt track.

We are Brits living in Spain. We have friends of different nationalities. Depending on when you come you can learn about organic gardening/farming, olives, animal care. There is always some project on the go.

Autres infos...
Orgiva is a good sized town with many bars, restaurants and a sports centre. It is 30 minutes from the coast and an hour to Granada. There are regular bus services in either direction. Granada has a train station also. Malaga is the main airport with good bus links to Orgiva via Granada. There is a ski resort in the Sierra Nevada mountains just above Granada. There are many beautiful walks. Our aim is to restore our land to its former glory. If you have a farming or horticultural background we may be of particular interest to you.

We worked from 8:30am until 10, when we had a half an hour toast and coffee stop. Then we worked until 2pm, when we had lunch with Karen, Steve and Nick.

We worked about 20 hours a week (4 a day) doing work on the land, and received comfortable accommodation in the caravan and delicious meals daily. For us, this seemed very fair.
We also had a good time with Steve, Karen and their son Nick, they are all really nice people, and easy to get along with. The… read more
