Description
We are an officially registered association with a dog shelter in Huanchaquito where we take care of the rescued dogs until we find them a home. We have 45 dogs to care for. Finding homes is really hard in Peru, so we try to give them the best life they can have in the shelter, and that's why we need volunteers! We are full and new dogs are not taken in anymore.
We are 100% dependent on the help of volunteers and donations.
The association is runned by Marjolein (The Netherlands). Volunteering with us will give you an amazing and very rewarding experience. Every morning volunteers go to the dog shelter (7 min bus) where they take care of the dogs, play with them, walk them, feed them and clean the terrain. We are improving the shelter whenever we have the funds. So handy volunteers are also more than welcome. If you have veterinarian experience that also comes in handy. You can help with administering medication etc.
Around 12.30 pm we go back to Huanchaco.
At times you can see the veterinarian in action.
Help with fundraising activities (on social media for example) will be very much appreciated.
We also need support in social media. For example with providing photos and videos.
if you are not stuck to a travel schedule and have plenty of time and are interested in taking on more responsibility and getting proper work experience working with dogs, stay long-term. The longer you stay the more responsibility you will be given to take care of the shelter.
We also have a need for volunteers with veterinarian experience to help us take care of our dogs who often need medical care.
Volunteers will have plenty of time to enjoy beautiful Huanchaco, go out and go surfing!
We ask for a minimum commitment of 1 month. The reason is that every volunteer needs to be taught, things explained, and be guided. any shorter than this is for us not feasible.
To be qualified as a volunteer, you must be minimally 18 years old (or have an adult chaperone you), be a real animal lover, feel committed to the cause, and feel comfortable around dogs.
This workaway is not the right job for travelers who are just looking for any job to extend their traveling.Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

Helping in a dogshelter is very rewarding. The dogs need people around them and you will soon fall in love with many of them. You will learn how life for dogs is in peru and how things here are so different.
A shelter in Peru is a lot different from animal shelters in developed countries where they often are put in cages. With us the dogs live together. We have to do with a minimum of facilities but if you love dogs you will find it only so much more rewarding to see how your presence is making such a difference.Aide

We offer lovely accomodation in one of Huanchaco´s nicest hostels. you have the option to go for a dorm bed, or if you like your privacy a private room with bathroom. The hostel is located in front of the beach and has a shared kitchen and beautiful gardens and lots of outside space to relax, and even has a fireplace.

Huanchaco is a beautifull surftown. In your free time you can take surflessons or go surfing. If you would like to improve your spanish there are some good spanish teachers here.
If you like to go out in the weekends there are some nice bars. If you like to go to the city Trujillo is just a 20 minute busride from here. And besides all of this there are some beautifull archeology sites to be visited. But be carefull because Huanchaco is known as a place where travellers tend to stay longer then planned:-)!Informations complémentaires
