I have enjoyed more than a dozen years of fantastic Workaway experiences at my chateau in Normandy…but now I have escaped!
The new project is restoring a mid century villa in Carcassonne …near Europe’s biggest castle! The new house is right on the Canal du Midi. The main house is all sorted..but I need help doing up a small flat and the garden.
I need handy men and women to help with small diy tasks, painting, decorating and gardening. Tradesmen and women are particularly welcome.
I only take couples or two or three people travelling together. I do not take single travellers …unless I know they can join other Workawayers already here.
I like lively, humorous, energetic, hard working helpers. It is very sociable here. Shrinking violets tend to find this a bit off putting. Wine tends to flow freely!
I have two dogs who love everyone..they are Cockapoos.
Accommodation is in a well appointed double or twin room with your own bathroom. You will need to share bathroom if a third person is here.

Most of my reviews are from when I had the chateau.
The new house is right in the centre of Carcassonne . You can walk everywhere.
I am four minutes walk from the railway station. It is easy to get to Montpellier, Toulouse and places in Spain.
I can pick you up from Carcassonne airport, which is ten minutes away. It is served by Ryanair from the UK, Ireland, Portugal and Belgium.
Toulouse airport is used by many other airlines. You can get the train from Toulouse to Carcassonne easily.

They repainted my kitchen and it looks fab. Michelle also wrapped fake Christmas presents to go around my tree….they look amazing.

Andrea and Nicola are a lovely natured Italian couple. They were my second set of Workawayers and got on well with everyone. They are very respectful and helpful.

Mattis was the first Workawayer at my new venture in the south of France and was a great success. He very quickly learnt how to put up dozens of pictures, shelves and lights. He would get very frustrated if the old walls didn’t let him do a perfect job.

I cannot recommend Steph and Leo highly enough. They work really hard, are self motivated and do a great job. They got my garden looking amazing in just a few days. They also cooked some lovely meals. They are definitely welcome back anytime.

What a bloody two weeks' workaway in here ! Jon was a welcoming, considerate and funny host, he offered more than just lovely accommodation to make me felt like at home. 15 minutes' drive to the sea, 1 hour's cycling (in sunny days) to the nearest train station, 1 afternoon's gardening to some little corner of paradise. The accommodation was amazing. Jon found us work to do out of season. He was clear with his intentions and well organised. He was flexible with our working hours and we worked with autonomy. We were proud to leave his kitchen freshly painted. Jon looked after us well and we had all the comforts we needed and he provided all the food we asked for.

Form an orderly queue for Wallace - one of the best Workawayers I have had in Normandy.
He came out of season to help me with DIY work. He was incredibly talented and hard working. He built a new bedroom for me, created a wood shed, repaired lots of decking, built storage boxes etc.

Jon is a great guy, he is easy going and the Place is really nice! I went there off the season so i did some jobs in the grounds and gardens. I did some hard work, but nothing to bad. that was a really great time! Jon is a very easy going guy and an amazing chief (not cooker please! :) ). He even drove me to the main second world war points (omaha beach, american memorial...). It's located in a beautiful landscape.

Jon was a tremendously accommodating, generous and friendly host. This is a beautiful place, and it was a pleasure helping out. The type of work I did varied a lot, but the work load was never too taxing. A very enjoyable experience indeed.

They are both very kind and considerate..but best of all they are great cooks and present food beautifully!

I would have Corinna and her partner Cara back in a flash. Corinna is a great seamstress and Cara a superb carpenter. They did some brilliant work around the hostel, but they were also a joy to have around. Just watch them at cards - they both like to win (although Corinna pretends she doesn't!!)

John was very generous to us. He fed us well, toured us around the region and was a pleasure to spend time with. His cats are fantastic and the house and grounds are beautiful. We would go back in a heartbeat.
