… read more and are always working on projects to utilize the land well. Sharla enjoyed weeding the many gardens. Doug chopped wood, trimmed bushes and helped clear some land for new garden plots. Gordon and Judy are so kind and easy to work with. They make you feel comfortable and want to use your talents and interests as well. They provided great meals and we enjoyed trying new foods. We rented a car so we were able to explore for a few hours in the afternoon or even full days on our days off. Gordon and Judy were so fair and encouraging of us to go out and explore after we had done our work. There are many great things to see within an hours drive. Doug and Sharla were an absolute delight. We cannot truly express our gratitude for their amazing help, warm, friendly and fun company. They were up early and out working, and so self motivated and skilful. Sharla gardened some very overgrown gardens, sreading mulch and even vacuumed my house on her day off, Doug helped Gordon with so much heavy
… read more work, digging sod, gathering mulch, trimming hedges, then clearing the table and stacking the dishwasher. They were very thoughtful and always asking what they could do to help. After working hard they enthusiastically explored the district. They were both just wonderful company and very kind and caring, we genuinely wish they could have stayed longer and lived closer so we could spend more time together. We wish them all the very best for their ongoing adventure.
We had the pleasure of hosting Kanae initially the plan was for two weeks but we extended that to 3 months. Kanae was a helpful polite and cheerful house guest. She was amazing with the animals, intuitive and noticed any little change in their behaviour and genuinely loved them all, and they all grew to love her. This included 2 big lovable pigs,
… read more 4 goats, 4 ducks and a lot of chickens, kanae fed and cared for them all, even on most of her days off. She coped so well with 4 cats who get on the table and demand love and the dogs couldn't wait for their runs with Kanae. We had a chaotic time with a lot of serious cleaning and Kanae often worked more than her 4 hours and would even work days off around helping us, she excelled at jobs requiring patience. She fit in well with our life and friends and was good company, learning to make bread and quiche. We had lovely chats about our families and cultures. We wish her all the best in her travels.
I spent almost 3 months with Gordon and Judy. Gordon is the most handy man I've ever met!!!! He cans every thing!!!! Building houses, camping cars, animals shelf, pool, pond, garden and beautiful kitchen! I'm sure you will surprise when you visit their house. I definitely enjoyed joining his work! He also has good sense of humor and lots of fun

Judy, she also has amazing abilities of crochet, painting, gardening and framing!!! she is really warm and thoughtful. When I had something struggled and talked her, she always tried to figure out best thing for me together. She made me feel always comfortable. Oh! I really loved her baking as well!!!! They have lovely animals who are pigs, goats, ducks, chickens, dogs and cats. My job were feeding animals, gardening, helping DIY things, cleaning their houses and their rental houses. the jobs are like not job, it was like helping family. I really really really enjoyed staying with them! I love them! I'm sure I come back to see them before I go back my country. Thank you Gordon and Judy for having me as your family. Judy and Gordon are very warm lovely people that I bonded quite quickly with. I fell into their day to day routine and enjoyed getting to know them and their family and friends. I really loved our breakfast routine in the mornings and then setting off on the days tasks and then coming together in the evenings for tea and testing ourselves against The Chase or watching a film. It really was a great stay and Gordon and Judy's song for Bracken is the best and definitely an ear worm. If you get the chance, Gordon makes a really good pasta dish you have to try! :) I do hope to come back and visit and will for sure stay in touch! The few weeks that I stayed with them were some of my hardest, personally, and I'm so grateful and appreciative of their kindness, love and compassion during my stay. … read more endearing. I had never been closed to a pig but Mr Joe conquered my heart. As for the goats, they are so familiar you can't help hugging them and they like it ! I still miss the four cats and the three dogs.
This place is a paradise. I think all the animals are the image of the humans living there. There's love everywhere, everyday. You just have to help yourself and.... I did ! Leaving this place was heartbroken. I left six days ago but I keep on thinking of them everyday.

… read more huge menagerie, and was very observant of any behaviour that may be a concern. She also shovelled out our chook house and goat barn, helped concrete, swept outdoors, cleaned cupboards, hung out and folded washing, vacuumed etc all without being asked.
Martine truly loved all of our animals and the feeling was very mutual. We would not hesitate to recommend Martine to any host.
We hope we will see you again Martine under less restrictive circumstances, maybe even in Greece!

Sadly Anders had to leave us early due to the corona virus pandemic and much of his later stay was clouded by the worry of getting home, he coped admirably for a good young man so far from his home and his family he loves dearly. Before meeting Anna we had a small reservation after seeing the "no show" feedback, however after mentioning this to Anna she enlightened us that she had actually found the host very slow to respond to emails, and that she had contacted them regarding her change in plans so in fact she was never a no show. Anna chose not to respond to the feedback but it was good to hear her side of the story, as it seemed very out of character from what we now know of her. Quentin stayed with us for 9 weeks, and was an absolute pleasure the entire time. He was immaculately tidy, very considerate, innovative, easy good company and his English was excellent. We enjoyed every moment of his company, our animals and grandchildren all loved him.

… read more gardened, felled trees and cut and split firewood, sanded windows, painted, did a lot of weed eater trimming, edged the 150 metres long driveway, shovelled and moved 2 tandem trailers of builders mix on a hand truck up a ramp and stairs to concrete a large goat barn, dismantled, sanded, oiled and reassembled our outdoor kwila table and six chairs, and rebuilt my old ten speed bike for fun. After every job Quentin cleaned and tidied up all equipment. He often saw other jobs that needed doing and used his initiative to do these as well. As well as all of this he made us some beautiful meal and left the kitchen perfect, made us crepes, often made us breakfast, cleared the table, loaded and unloaded the dishwasher, vacuumed his room, changed his bed and washed his sheets. As well as working he watched goat kids being born, formed a close bond with the cats especially Ruff Ruff, biked to the beach, surfed and froze, read and relaxed, went biking through the Redwood Forest and Waihi Tunnel, visited Hobbiton and accompanied us on a few family occasions, We wish Quentin all the very best on his travels and in life, he is a truly aesthetic, caring, thoughtful young man with a deep regard for his family and friends.

… read more some work. I learned how to use a wood splitter which is something i've not done before, and I used the weed eater to cut down the grass along the sides of the long drive. I did some weeding and general outside tidying up. There are some lovely goats and Judy makes her own cheese which she is quite happy to show you. A lovely experience for animal lovers as there are also 5 cats and 3 small dogs that live in the house with you, a pool to cool off in at the end of your work and lots of interesting areas in the garden to relax in.
