It was good to have Mira stay because she made my garden look nice. She worked hard with good results.
We had a great 3 weeks staying with Fenella. As vegetarians who prioritize healthy foods we were in heaven with the organic food grown in her garden and she always made sure we had plenty of delicious food to eat. Fenella showed us a couple beautiful beaches where she walks her dogs and introduced us to friends that were welcoming and good
… read more conversationalists. Her home is an absolute dream home and the river was a refreshing place to swim after working. Fenella knows how she wants things done and is good at communicating that to you and kind when teaching new skills.
It was lovely to have Ryan and Rylee stay. They were very helpful and respectful and achieved a lot. My place looks better after all their work!

we had a wonderfull stay with lots of wonderfull dogies to keep us company. and fenella made us very nice organic homemade meals and had very tasty homemade wine. it was great to do some gardening work with the good weather on our side. also learning us some skills like a bit off sowing and sharing some knowledge about plants. love to all the

… read more city-weary soul, as was the view of the starry night sky from the little window of the garden room I stayed in.
I arrived end-Dec amid the rain so the work was mostly indoors, cleaning while enjoying music from the main house's excellent sound system and chatting with Fenella. She invited me to her friend's place for Christmas where I met some of the community. I left after 6 days to volunteer at a festival in Auckland (they had a shortage of volunteers); Fenella was kind enough to send me off with a quilt and let me leave some of my things behind till I returned. The sun was out by the time I got back from the festival and I was happy to spend much of the remaining 9 days in the garden under Fenella's patient tutelage. I also did a little social media troubleshooting to help share about her eco-coffin business, one of many projects she juggles. It was lovely to go on tramps in the surrounding paddocks, Tokerau beach and Cooper beach with Fenella and her friends when they walked their dogs.
It was easy communicating with Fenella as she is direct and clear about how she would like things done while remaining open to suggestions. She has updated her host profile to indicate how long it takes to drive to places. I didn't drive but managed with a combo of Intercity bus, a rideshare and hitchhiking. Unfortunately, her purple and yellow vintage car with flames on the sides was at the mechanic's while I was there so I didn't get to see or ride in it. We stayed four days at Fenella's and enjoyed her buitifull property and especially the wonderfull bathhole at the river. She showed us a bit of the regional party scene and we had a cute accommodation. Thanks for your generosity!

The house and land are a wonderful mix of managed and wild, and stood up well on the fringes of cyclone Gabrielle! With no transport of my own, she was kind enough to collect me in Kaitaia and then at the end get me to the bus in Taipa. We had a lovely time with Fenella and all of the dogs! We don't have a vehicle ourselves and Fenella was kind enough to take us to the markets and on her dogs walks. Fenella is such an interesting person and she lives in an amazing place. Her dogs are friendly but also independent.
There is always different lovely dogs around to pet.
