We are a fun and sociable backpackers’ hostel looking for enthusiastic individuals with a positive attitude. Whether you're traveling solo, as a couple, or in a group, you’re welcome to apply!
International travelers love staying here and enjoy our warm, friendly, and relaxed atmosphere. Many describe it as a "home away from home." We love hearing your stories and exchanging cultural experiences. Check us out on Facebook and Instagram!
Our Backpackers is a truly unique building with a rich history, requiring thoughtful care to restore its lost charm. It is located just 100 meters from the town center and the local supermarket, making it super convenient. Greymouth is also a gateway to many fantastic tourist attractions, such as:
- Punakaiki (Pancake Rocks)
- Paparoa Great Walk
- Lake Brunner
- Wilderness Cycle Trail
The Work:
2,5 to 3 hours, 5 days a week
from approx 10am as housekeepers.
Remuneration is in a form of:
- Accommodation with a west-facing balcony to enjoy stunning sunsets
- Food
- Free Wi-Fi
- Free laundry facilities
- Free use of bikes and fishing rods
We ask for a minimum stay of 14 days. Of course, the longer you’re available, the better it would be for us.

They have system in hostel which works very well.
In term of time and job that we did, we have got at least 300% bonus on top what we have expected.

We spent 2 weeks in Greymouth and it was amazing. Lynda and Harry are such great person with interest on their workawayers. Sadly, I spent only one week here. I wish I spent longer! They made me feel right at home the minute I arrived with pizza and drinks! The work was easy and you had the entire afternoon off to explore the local area. My 3 week stay here was really wonderful. The hostel and its owners make you feel incredibly homely. The accomodation is very nice, especially the possibility to watch beautiful sunset on the balcony. And as a little extra they have got an amazing dog and the best music.

Adam was great. He really grew into role he was given and totally owned it.

Excellent experience!
Harry and Lynda were friendly and they have a really relaxed and fun hostel. The other workawayers were awesome company too. It's a really nice location to relax and I wish I had spent longer there (so will have to go back sometime)

I stayed at the hostel for about three weeks, and I had a really great time there. The house is cozy, the guests and other Workawayer were nice and Harry and Lynda were such funny and nice hosts. You immediately felt involved and like you are a part of the community.

Tara was wonderfully helpful and enthusiastic.
I really enjoyed having her come and stay.
She had initiative and was a great leader. Unafraid to try new things.

If you are looking for a place to walk barefoot down the halls, play cards with strangers, and feel genuinely at home, stay here. Stephane was fantastic. We would rate him 10 Star if we could go that high. He was so helpful and willing to do anything that he could to improve our hostel. I have just spent three weeks with Lynda, Harry and Cosmo ! I felt at home since a first day, i spent an amazing time with them, in a beautiful building and garden, with music at all time ! Greymouth is a quiet town, very good to relax. I would never forget my Greymouth Family, miss you already, i felt wonderful at your house !!!

Marie was so much fun. We all enjoyed her joyful personality. Marie also loves dogs so our hostel pooch Cosmo really enjoyed her company as well. Expecially the walks along the beach.

Working here was easily my favorite workaway experience in NZ. Lynda and Harry are super interesting people and Jim and Launa made the work fly by each day. Greymouth might not be the most exciting place but this place makes up for it with the people who live and work there. I would go back to work here any time.

Jenny stayed with us for a week in the beginning of April and helped us with the laundry in the hostel. She's easy going, an energetic worker and puts effort in what she does and always has a smile on her lips.

Matt and Myrie were fantastic hosts! They made me feel so welcome! The hostel is beautiful and the effort that went into it really shows! The work is fair and you have plenty of time to explore! There are some lovely walks in the area and Bez the dog is more than happy to join you! Thanx again both! Great workaway!

Matt and Myrie are great, down to earth hosts. I had a great time staying with them and meeting a lot of people in the hostel. The hostel overall had a very cosy feel and was so neat, I especially loved seeing Bez and Jess around. Thank you guys for the experience!

This is a beautiful, cozy hostel where you will feel at home immediately. I really enjoyed my stay here, especially because I could work at the reception and gain a good insight into how to run and maintain a backpackers. This is a good place to stay, we really enjoyed the garden, the pool and the big kitchen as well as the lovingly furbished animal rooms. Our tasks where clearly structured and easily done. Thank you for the time there!

Thanks so much for hosting me, Matt and Myrielle! I had a very positive experience for my first workaway exchange. I would definitly stop there again if I find myself on the West Coast again. The work was not too hard, and a very fair exchange for the accomodation. Cheers!
