in 2017 we spent a year backpacking around the world and our favorite experiences were the time we spent with workaway hosts! We learned so much and made so many meaningful friends working alongside locals in the communities- we really believe that getting to participate as a workawayer immersed in a local project is the best way to experience a new place. Some of our hosts have remained friends who are now like family after all these years.

We moved back home in in 2018 but still have traveler hearts and often find ourselves out and about in this beautiful world.

Sofia is currently back in school for a Modern Language degree and is working on Spanish and French fluency. She loves language exchange whenever possible! She works in Real Estate and has marketing experience, is great with time management and independent initiative as an independent contractor. She also weight lifts and is strong and not afraid of heavy labor (she actually enjoys it!) She is curious and friendly but also has no problem being independent. She also loves to garden!

Teague is an attorney and has an excellent work ethic, organizational skills, and some carpentry ability. He also weight lifts and is the 'muscle' in most projects.

We have been working with local dog rescues since we moved home in 2018 and Sofia volunteers regularly with the local humane shelter doing spay/neuter clinics and with a local pig sanctuary. We adore all animals and have a huge respect for them, which is why we are both vegetarians (working on veganism but needing more practice and cooking skills).

We love to travel in different countries, experience this great big world, learn how others live, and embrace new philosophies. We are good humored, hard workers who really appreciate being outside (especially after years of working indoor jobs), getting to use our hands and learning new languages. We're curious about everything you have to teach us! Also, we love dogs!

Quais são suas habilidades?
Teague grew up on a New Mexican ranch, so he's familiar with livestock and farm work, including building a barn or two. We're both former competitive strength athletes (Sofia competed in powerlifting and Teague competed in strongman) so we're not afraid of hard work or moving heavy things!

Teague's done some construction work and renovation, so he's familiar and comfortable with power tools and basic construction work (mixing and pouring concrete, basic framing, basic woodwork, roofing, painting, ditch digging, etc).

Before leaving home, Sofia was a bartender for 4 years at a beautiful wine house in New Mexico and put herself through college waiting tables and working in the hospitality industry. Lots of experience talking to strangers and making friends! She also spent time as a personal trainer and yoga enthusiast. She loves to do high energy activities and laugh. She also has a background in visual arts, charcoal and pastel work. Not afraid to get her hands dirty and lift heavy things!

Currently she is a business owner in the local Real Estate market, which gives her a lot of customer service experience, marketing experience and project management experience.

Teague worked his way through college as a newspaper photographer. We both have a lot of experience with film production. We both play a little music (guitar, ukulele) and Sofia worked her way through college as a bartender (if you need any drinks poured!). We both got our undergraduate degrees in Film Studies at New Mexico State!

Our biggest skill is that we're both very easygoing and ready to help in any way we can. As recovering workaholics, we're eager to help build/repair/renovate/help create something that really matters!

I like to travel with a ukulele which I'm happy to play and share. I love outdoor games, gardening, learning about language and philosophy, live music, DANCING, and reading. I'm adaptable.

If you are looking for a meaningful workaway in a beautiful location with amazing people, rewarding work, and excellent conversation then you want to volunteer for Mike and Rosie (and Jasper!). We spent 4 weeks on their farm in Scotland and our biggest regret of our year on the road is that we didn’t stay longer.

Rosie is an EXCELLENT workaway… read more host who is always quick to respond to any questions or concerns and we corresponded so much via workaway and facebook that by the time we actually got to the farm, it felt like we already knew each other. She puts a lot of thought and energy into being kind and communicative before you even get there which is such a telling sign of the quality of workaway you are committing to.

The farm itself is impossibly beautiful, a truly amazing place to stay and work. The work day is well structured and Rosie and Mike give a lot of thought to structuring tasks so you don’t get bored or overworked. They talk over a game plan with everyone at breakfast so you never feel blindsided or overwhelmed and Rosie and Mike make a point to check in with you and make sure that you’re happy with the arrangement. The work itself can range from quite physical (we dug a large drainage ditch) to less demanding (such as sorting wool) and it is all delightful. You will spend a fair amount of time working with and caring for the chickens, sheep and donkeys. Working outside, weather permitting, is lovely and there is always plenty to do. The day is split up well and provides the perfect balance between work and leisure.

Mike and Rosie put in the effort to figure out everyone’s strengths and gives them work accordingly. As a result, you may end up surprising yourself when things begin to feel less like tasks and more like activities that you are genuinely interested in and happy to do.

The food was absolutely terrific and mealtimes were a delight. When we weren’t deep in discussion we were out of breath with laughter.

The accommodations for workawayers are excellent and provide a great degree of privacy, should you want to spend an afternoon after work holed up reading on your own. Rosie and Mike provide the upper floor for their workawayers with a bathroom just down the hall. The views out of your bedroom window alone will have been worth your trip. You are given plenty of free time to explore and we were able to take a couple weekend trips to explore Scotland during our stay with the encouragement of the Mike and Rosie.

We arrived strangers and left (teary eyed) as friends and we can’t wait to see them again. I would highly, highly, highly encourage anyone interested in farm life to commit as much time as they can here and be greatly rewarded for their efforts. Mike and Rosie (and Jasper, Maddie, Rubuen, and Sprout...yes, that’s all the dogs you get to play with if you stay!) are so wonderful and worth getting to know. If you’re anything like us, this experience will be the highlight of your travels.
