Hello!! :)
We are Lisa (from Japan) and Karl (from Germany), currently on a long-term bikepacking journey from Germany to Japan. 🚲 We started in July 2025 from Karl’s hometown in Kempten and our destination is Lisa’s family home in Yokohama. For us, however, this journey is much more about the path itself than the destination itself.

We travel slowly and consciously, trying to stay present and truly experience the places, people, and cultures we encounter along the way. What matters most to us is not how far we go, but the meaningful connections we make. Encounters with people, animals, and nature are what shape our days and stay with us the longest.

This journey is also a time of personal reflection. We both left our previous careers to explore how we want to live our lives in a more authentic and simple way, beyond expectations. We try to listen closely to our minds and bodies and take each day as it comes.

That is why Workaway feels like such a natural part of our journey. We would love to stay a bit longer in one place to share daily life, exchange skills, and connect more deeply with people and their way of living.

We met in Brazil in 2016 and later lived together in Germany. Over time, we discovered that we are a strong team, while also enjoying working independently and bringing in our individual strengths.

Karl studied Beer brewing and worked as a professional beer brewer for 3 years before choosing a new path as a Firefighter and Paramedic. 🍺🧑‍🚒

Lisa studied Aviation Management and worked as an Aviation data analyst for 3 years. ✈️

Quais são suas habilidades?

We both enjoy being active, learning by doing, and supporting wherever help is needed. Through our different experiences, we’ve developed a mix of practical, creative, and people-oriented skills.

We genuinely like learning new things and take pride in being efficient and reliable. We enjoy focusing on tasks, getting things done, and seeing positive results. It makes us happy not only to contribute, but also to share that sense of accomplishment with our hosts.

Karl is very (really very!) hands-on in various tasks. With his background as a brewer, as well as his experience as a firefighter and paramedic, he is used to working in dynamic environments, taking responsibility, and staying calm under pressure. He is practical, proactive, and enjoys working with his hands.

Lisa comes from a background in data analysis, which makes her reliable, detail-oriented, and well organised. She is also a people person, communicative, talkative and enjoys creating a positive and open atmosphere.

We both share a strong creative side. We enjoy activities such as wood carving, drawing, painting, knitting, and crocheting. In general, we love expressing ourselves creatively and bringing that energy into the places we stay.

We consider ourselves fast learners, hardworking, respectful, independent and easy to communicate with. We are happy to adapt to different tasks and environments and always aim to support in a meaningful and positive way.
