My name is Merle, I am 20 years old and right now I live with my parents in Hamburg, Germany.
I graduated high school in 2022 and did a voluntary service at a church in Spain for a year after that. Since I still wasn't sure what to study, I took one more year off to gain some experience in different areas and just enjoy life without that many responsibilities :) This September I will start studying practical theology & social work in Germany.
I already did some voluntary work on farms for two months last year (with WWOOF, a different organization, specialized in ecological farms) and since I enjoyed it a lot, I wanted to do something similar again, so now I'll try Workaway. I am mostly looking for work that has to do with animals (I have never owned a pet but the WWOOF experience made me realize how much I love them) but I also enjoy cooking, maybe teaching German/some basic Spanish, gardening activities or anything that I can do outside. I don't really have one specific country in mind, but I will probably mostly use Workaway in Portugal, Croatia and Greece which I want to travel to in the next few months. I would like to stay in places that are in the countryside because I prefer the quieter and calm lifestyle and don't need big cities and clubs to have a great time.
A few more things about myself: I am Christian and my faith is very important to me but I am also open and interested in learning about other peoples´ faith and beliefs. I am responsible and a hard worker and I am well aware that Workaway isn't just a budget-friendly holiday, I see it more as an opportunity to exchange knowledge, experience, skills, culture, language and much more and I also just like to feel useful and to see that what I am doing has a positive effect on others (humans and animals) :) I enjoy meeting new people, even though I am a rather introverted person and also need some time for myself sometimes. I enjoy being in nature a lot and I love the beach and also the mountains.
Things I like to do in my free time are walking, running or cycling outside, meeting up with friends, reading, cooking, crocheting and different activities in church.

Quais são suas habilidades?

I speak German and English fluently and I also speak Spanish on a level on which I can communicate with most people. I like to talk about languages and I am open to teach some of my spoken languages or to learn about others.
I am independent, patient and thorough in doing my tasks and don't have problems with doing "the dirty work".
In my farm stays with WWOOF I could gain some experience in milking sheep, feeding some animals, processing dairy products, pruning trees, preserving fruits and herbs, weeding, harvesting and planting, but I can't call myself a professional in any of those areas.
I also enjoy cooking quite a lot and it brings me joy to cook for others (but I only know how to prepare vegetarian food).
I am an empathetic person so even though I don't have that much experience with animals I think that I can handle and treat them well because I respect and appreciate them.
With WWOOF I have also done some minor handiness tasks such as building a hen for chickens from old building materials or putting up a fence and I try my best to do everything the way it is explained to me.
I have also done babysitting and teaching as a small job, so if needed, I can also imagine helping in that area.
