Hola! We are embarking on an indefinite return trip to Central and South America with each other. Maddy is a keen explorer who loves being outside, seeing the world's wonders and meeting new people. Ever the confident speaker, she will talk to practically anybody and it's because she simply loves being social and hearing new stories from all over. At university, Maddy thrived as a walking tour guide and got involved with sailing as a complete beginner four years ago. She is keen to utilise her existing skills as well as gain new skills along the way. Maddy’s passion is also writing - she is journalling our travels along the way in a blog. Overall, she is thrilled to be starting this adventure and cannot wait to engage in new activities and experiences that challenge her outside my comfort zone. She particularly loves being near the sea!

Sam loves all things outdoors and environmental. He has a genuine passion, influenced by his degree for learning about the conservation of the world and how we can work simultaneously alongside nature in a way that conserves it. He would love to learn more about the ways people in South America care for nature around them and live sustainably within their ecosystems - as well as improve on his surfing and climbing skills! He has lots of experience working as: a sailing instructor, tour guide, bartender and landscaper. As much as he enjoys the rewarding nature of work, he also loves to socialise with a cold beer afterwards. Sam has good practical skills and is confident leading big groups of people in outdoor activities. I speak a little Spanish and look forward to improving it!

We are native English speakers (Maddy has a degree in English). Sam studied Spanish at school and we'd both love to learn more Spanish and Portuguese! Returning home fluent in these languages would be a dream.

Quais são suas habilidades?

Sam is a highly practical individual! Having had experience as a second mate on sailing vessels and working outside across a range of activities, he can help with most practical tasks. Equally, a passionate geographer, he is always interested in helping out with wildlife and the outdoors, he is a caring individual who will always offer to help. He also has great manual labour skills and is an incredibly efficient worker.

Maddy has worked mainly towards a career in journalism, so language via writing and speaking are her forte. Equally, she has worked in the hospitality industry alongside education for nearly 10 years and this includes waitressing, bar work, cash-handling and most recently coffee-making as a barista. She loves cooking and baking, and can confidently prepare, cook, and clean up after meal times. At university, she also worked as a walking tour guide across the Yorkshire Dales and wider region, leading groups of 50 students on 20km hikes. Maddy can also sew confidently on a machine and is very good at making things - she never says no to a new project.

We are so excited to join work away as this is an amazing adventure for us both! Maddy is a super outgoing and chatty individual who loves meeting people and Sam is a real adventurer and will always give new challenges a go. We both pride ourselves on being caring and kind individuals and we look forward to meeting new people and enhancing our skills.
