Hi! We are Karolina and Adam 👋

We’re a couple originally from the beautiful, bohemian country of the Czech Republic. For the past six years, we’ve been living in the United Kingdom, where we both came to study. With our master’s degrees officially behind us, we’re setting off on a new adventure to immerse ourselves in Kiwi and Māori culture while traveling through New Zealand. We both love connecting with local communities, working with our hands, helping wherever we can, and learning along the way — which makes Workaway feel like the perfect fit for us!

We are both hardworking, adaptable, and naturally positive people who enjoy meeting others. For several years, we have been active volunteers with the Scout Association, creating programs for children and young adults, organising various events, camps, and training sessions. Spending time outdoors, working with people, and contributing to meaningful projects is something we both truly enjoy. 🏞️

A BIT ABOUT US

👩‍🌾Karolina:
My long-term passion lies in community development. During my journalism studies, my projects always revolved around topics such as community life, sustainability, media literacy, and women’s empowerment—subjects that continue to shape my life. I love working with children, caring for animals, gardening, planting, singing, painting, spending time outdoors, and, of course, writing!

👨‍💻Adam:
Adam studied business with entrepreneurship and later continued in digital marketing. His biggest passion, however, is coffee and hospitality. I’m always amazed by how quickly he makes friends and how at ease people feel around him. He absolutely loves animals, has spent years working with children, and when he’s not reading about coffee, you can find him drawing, illustrating, diving into IT-related topics, playing guitar or very likely chatting with someone!

Our personalities & interests

We’re a mix of extroverts and introverts. Moving abroad during the pandemic was both a challenge and an enriching experience, shaping our personalities in unexpected ways. We love spending time with friends—whether that’s Adam laughing and joking with new people or me (Karolina) bonding over creative activities, pottery, books, or plant propagation. 🪴

Whether it’s problem-solving, organising, or bringing new ideas to life, we each bring something different to the table. Adam is technically oriented, great with technology and manual tasks, and naturally easygoing with people. On the other hand, my strengths lie in creativity, attention to detail, nurturing, and providing care and support. 🔧🎨

We both love a good chat, a hearty laugh, and sitting by the campfire—playing guitar, singing along, and simply soaking in the beauty of the stars. We can easily adapt to a free-spirited, adventurous lifestyle while also appreciating comfort when it’s available. In many ways, we’re a little bit of both worlds.

PRACTICALITIES

What we’re looking for & when we’re available.

From September 2025 to February 2026 we’re hoping to set off on an adventure in New Zealand — meeting new people, sharing stories, lending a hand wherever we can, spending time in beautiful nature, surrounded by animals and good people, and immersing ourselves in local life and cuisine.

What We Can Offer

As we mentioned before, we are a mix of everything—quick learners, open-minded, and highly adaptable. We don’t have a strict plan on where we’ll go or what type of work we’ll do, but we’re excited to contribute enthusiastically in any way we can.

Here are some of the skills and experiences we bring:

🌿 Gardening, Sustainability & Outdoor Work

Karolina comes from a florist family, so she has spent her whole life surrounded by plants, flowers, and vegetable gardens. She has hands-on experience in growing plants, caring for trees, and maintaining gardens, and she is deeply interested in permaculture and sustainable ecosystems. Adam, while not a plant expert, enjoys manual work and is always happy to help with outdoor tasks like landscaping, wood processing, and general maintenance.

🎨 Creative & Educational Workshops

Karolina has years of experience leading workshops for both children and adults. Whether it’s teaching how to make a wreath, draw, or use new artistic techniques, she loves sharing knowledge in a fun, interactive way. She also enjoys hands-on projects like DIY crafts, macrame, pottery, and cultural education—from folklore and traditional crafts to fire-making and first aid training.

Adam, on the other hand, comes from a family of pharmacists and IT specialists, which gives him a mix of technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and structured thinking. He is always the one who knows what to do in any medical situation and is interested in learning more about alternative healing methods, herbal medicine, and holistic approaches to health. He is also great with computers, troubleshooting tech issues, setting up systems, and anything IT-related. From his hospitality background, he has excellent customer service skills, coffee-making expertise, and experience managing a fast-paced work environment.

👩‍🌾🐄 Farmwork & Animal Care

From our Workaway experiences so far, we’ve often been surrounded by animals, and farm life has become something we both feel very comfortable with. Karolina discovered a real passion for animal care—being around animals, learning their routines, and supporting their wellbeing is something she would love to explore even more deeply if the opportunity arises.

We have experience with feeding calves and lambs, moving stock between paddocks, setting up temporary electric fences, weighing young animals, and helping with tasks like drenching. We’ve worked with sheep, cattle, cows, chooks, and geese, and we’re always happy to assist with daily farm routines and general maintenance around the property.

We genuinely enjoy the atmosphere of a working farm, and whenever there’s an opportunity to be close to animals, Karolina is usually the first to volunteer.

💡 Business, Marketing & Media

We both have experience in marketing, PR, and design. Adam has extensive knowledge about startups, setting up businesses, and entrepreneurship, he loves photography and could spend hours taking pictures of New Zealand birds. Karolina has worked as a freelance journalist, in fundraising, social media management, content creation, and filming/editing with professional equipment. If a host needs help with promoting a project, improving social media presence, or brainstorming creative ideas, we’re happy to assist!

🛠️ Manual & Household Skills

We’re both comfortable with manual work and general maintenance. From processing wood, building fences, cleaning gutters, building simple structures to painting walls and using a variety of tools, we’re not afraid to get our hands dirty! We also enjoy cooking, organizing spaces, and creating a cozy, welcoming environment.

👩‍👧‍👦 Childcare & Community Engagement

With years of experience in the Scout Association, we’ve both spent a lot of time working with children, organizing activities, and creating engaging programs. We love bringing people together—whether through community projects, storytelling, music, or outdoor games.
