I am a curious person and lifelong learner. In my early 20s, I lived and worked in a couple of countries outside the US and discovered a love of other people and cultures. Since that time, I've traveled to parts of western and eastern Europe, Russia, Ukraine, SE Asia, and Central America. While not fluent in any language besides English, I have studied German, Swedish, Russian, and Spanish. The latter is one I hope to speak - at least conversationaly - before I breathe my last!

To that end, in December 2023, I quit my job as executive director of a nonprofit that promoted collaboration between government, healthcare, education, nonprofits, and business to support the most vulnerable in my local community. I am traveling in Spanish-speaking countries - currently in South America - and teaching Engish online part-time.

When I travel, I try to delve deeper into a place than the typical tourist. I like to connect with locals and understand the world from their perspective and experiences. I appreciate stories, both sharing my own and hearing those of others.

I'm an adventurous eater who enjoys all kinds of food and drink, though I lean towards a vegetarian diet, adding seafood on occasion. That said, I've been eating chicken and sometimes even beef because, well, I'm in South America. I prefer street food, simple cafes, and a good pub over high-priced, fine dining restuarants and nightclubs.

I'm active and like to hike or be on the water - kayaking, rowing, sailing. I also appreciate slowing down the pace with yoga (I was a certified teacher from 2017-20), reading, and meditation.

In brief, I want to enjoy exploring new places, meeting new people, and experiencing different cultures while being of service to the local community.

I am strong, in good health, and I don't mind getting my hands dirty, so feel free to put me to work on most any task. : )

I have a Level 5 TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate.

I have small business skills, and I understand how to provide excellent customer service.

My hobbies including singing, sculling (rowing), and hiking. I was also a certified yoga instructor and occasionally volunteer to teach.

As a professional, I have done many things over the course of my life. Early in my career, I worked in the software industry as a developer and project team leader. Later, I made a change to promote "clean tech" industries, such as green building and renewable energy. Most recently, I was the executive director of a small nonprofit focused on community development, such as affordable housing, healthcare, and poverty reduction. I know how to plan events, facilitate conversations, and manage projects and people.

I have two adult daughters. I'm the youngest of 14 children (all from the same parents). I enjoy movies at the cinema, live theater, reading, singing, and a healthy lifestyle.
