Hey!
I'm Aidan, 27, lover of bees and trees and good tunes. Thanks for checkin out my profile.
I grew up moving around the world every couple of years, and have called the Snoqualmie River valley in Washington state home since 2018. I'm passionate about the outdoors, music, travel, and working with kids. I have almost 15 years of experience as a private guitar and piano instructor, and 5 years of experience working with kids in an outdoor capacity, where I lead games, survival skills lessons, bird language sessions, etc. I also have spent 2 years teaching at a creative writing school.
I'm interested in diving into more permaculture projects as I travel to Central/South America. I have a permaculture design certificate but it's been a little while since I've used that knowledge in the field. I'd love to be involved with projects revolving around reforestation, farming, natural building, etc. Also very interested in positions working with kids in an outdoor setting.

Quais são suas habilidades?
I'm a certified permaculture designer (lots to learn still), and a graduate of the Anake Outdoor School, as well as the Anake Leadership Program (now known as the Nature Instructor Training Program). Being in the wilderness is not new to me, and I may be able to share knowledge of primitive skills and nature connection routines. I recently got recertified in wilderness first aid, and, like I mentioned in my bio, have experience working with kids as an outdoor instructor. I can also teach pranayama (breathwork) routines for some deep soul-searching. I'm a musician, and love teaching what I know in that world too. I enjoy outdoor labor, and am eager to learn more about farming, gardening, building, local/indigenous cultures, and anything else related!

Wonderful time here. Spent just over a week here, mostly painting furniture. It was a lovely countryside retreat way off the general tourist path, which offered plenty of opportunities to practice thai and experience an authentic side of thailand. Tan is a great host, fun, and the food here is amazing.

Young Aidan and his fabulous friend Hanna are wonderful kids, and we had a really smashingly good time hosting them! They were part of one of our more efficient, and certainly most fun teams to date, working mostly with Rémi on an independent project straightening out rafters before we put on a new roof. This involved work on high ladders and… read more scaffolding, using power tools such as a drill, angle grinder, and circle saw as well as hammers, crow bars and bolt cutters. Hanna took to the angle grinder like a fish to water, cutting lengths of threaded rod while Rémi and Aidan used them to create joints between longer rafters. They made an excellent team!

Aidan and Hanna are exceptionally good friends who know each other through and through, and travel well together. They have grown up on US military bases, and are both born storytellers, so we got to hear hilarious stories about their past, giving a glimpse of a world I’ve only seen in movies. Among many other things, I now know what an A1C is… and feel there’s so much left to learn. I look forward to hearing more, the next time they come.

During their first week here, Aidan showed some masterful skills with the trimmer, working quickly and competently, clearing a huge area of long grass that hadn’t been cut since two years back. Hanna is very conscientious, she listens and learns and follows through well, doing a good job of everything she’s given. They work well together in this way, since Hanna takes responsibility for knowing what it is that needs to be done, and how, and Aidan works alongside her... also, they accurately measured the roofs of two buildings, and spent hours on their last day here calculating how best to use the aluminum sheets to optimize the covered surfaces with the sheets available. It was a huge job, they put in a great effort and they did it very well! For those who think you’ll never make use of high school mathematics again, at least these two people have.

They’re both very talented musically and visually, spontaneously improvising songs upon request, which made for very nice evenings all crowding together in the living room, singing along. I also personally challenge new hosts to top the experience of showing them their two new favorite movies, The Prince and Me and The Prince and Me 2. We certainly felt like hosting them and the helpers they were here with was a great time and that we were like a big, bustling, fun, loud, laughing family. I certainly recommend hosting Aidan and Hanna, and know they will learn and share skills, stories, laughs, and great camaraderie with their lucky hosts during their year of traveling. Have a wonderful trip, and auf Wiederhören, mi hijos.
