Hi,
I'm Angela. I am looking for workaway projects because
I want to meet different people, learn about Latin American culture and use whatever knowledge and skills I have to help make this world a better place.
My interests include community projects, tourism/customer service, translation and learning about things related to sustainability, nature and local customs. It would be fantastic to share family life at some projects and also to meet and work with other volunteers.

My main job is in Administration, working as a Personal Assistant in the strategic leadership office of a large university. I am an excellent organiser and make sure the bosses' days run smoothly.

I have experience with basic maintenance tasks like painting, wallpapering, sanding, etc.; including mosaic making. At 'home' in the UK, I have volunteered with a Buddhist charity where I helped turn a warehouse into a community centre with café, shop, offices and spiritual spaces. I have a food hygiene certificate and helped in the café for some months and also with charity sales. I enjoy working with people and providing excellent service, so people leave with a smile.

I like working in my little garden and can help with general gardening, weeding, watering, pruning or maybe harvesting.

I can sew cushions and curtains and other home textiles.

During my studies, I spent my summers working for a travel agency and I was the tour guide on a short trip to Venice in Italy.

I like working in a team, but I am responsible and can work independently.

I'm easy-going and prefer a quiet night in (maybe with a good book) over partying. Unless there's dancing! I am a big fan of Latin dance and have taught Cuban salsa at beginners level. I like meeting new people and I would describe myself as open-minded and flexible.

I'm currently travelling in Latin America and hope to learn new skills and experience new aspects of life.

COVID 19: I have two complete doses of vaccine and a booster dose! All with vaccine certificate and of course full travel insurance.

Soy Angela y estoy interesada en proyectos de workaway porque
quiero conocer nuevas personas, aprender mas sobre las culturas latinoamericanas, practicar espanol y utilizar cualquier conocimiento y habilidades que tengo para ayudar hacer este mundo un mejor lugar para vivir. Me interesan proyectos sociales, empresas turísticas/servicio al cliente, proyectos de traducción y quiero aprender de proyectos ecologicos/granjas organicas, conservacion de naturaleza y projeyctos sociales. Sería genial poder encontrar unos proyectos viviendo con familias típicas y también conocer y trabajar con otros voluntarios.

Trabajo en administración como asistente personal para los jefes de una universidad grande en Inglaterra. Es mi responsabilidad asegurar que cada día de trabajo de los jefes está perfectamente organizado.

Tengo experiencia con tareas básicas de mantenimiento como pintar, alisar, y más. Incluso he hecho un mosaico de cerámica en mi casa en Inglaterra. 'Trabajé' como voluntaria en un centro de comunidad/centro Buddhista donde ayudé convertir un almacén en un espacio para la comunidad con oficinas, cafetería, tienda de segunda mano, y espacios spirituales. Trabajé unos meses en la cafetería y tengo un certificado de higiene alimentaria. Últimamente estaba ayudando con ferias para la comunidad en que vendimos ropa, zapatos y cosas para la casa. Me encanta trabajar con gente y hay nada más satisfactorio que cuando la gente salen felices y con una sonrisa puesta.

Me gusta tender a mi jardíncito en Inglaterra y puedo ayudar con jardinería, cosechar, etc.

Sé coser, por ejemplo sábanas, fundas, cortinas.

Durante mis estudios universitarios pasé los vacaciones de verano trabajando para una agencia de viajes. Una vez me encargaron ser la guía para un viaje corto a Venecia, Italia.

Me gusta trabajar en equipo con otros, pero igualmente soy responsable y puedo trabajar independientemente.

En general soy tranquila y prefiero una noche en casa (tal vez leyendo un libro) a fiestas, salvo si hay baile, ja, ja. Soy muy fan de salsa, bachata, merengue. Enseñe clases de salsa cubana a nivel básico.
Me encanta conocer gente nueva. Soy flexible y me adapto a diferentes situaciones y entornos.

Actualmente estoy viajando por Sudamérica y espero poder conocer mucha gente y muchos lugares interesantes.

COVID 19: Cuento con dos dosis de vacuna contra covid y una vacuna de refuerzo. Tengo los certificados de vacunacion y por supuesto policia de seguro para cualquier emergencia

Quais são suas habilidades?
1) I'm an avid gardener and DIYer, don't mind getting my hands dirty. I've undertaken many tasks in my own house and garden. I also helped as a volunteer for a Buddhist charity turning a warehouse into a community centre with meditation space, library, office, cafe and shop (lots and lots of sanding and painting!). I am happiest working in a team with other like minded people.

2) I volunteered in the cafe for 6 months and gained a food hygiene qualification.

Give me a good book any day, nothing better to relax at the end of a hard day! I like board games, baking and cake decorating as well as arts and crafts. Working in my little garden in England is pure happiness for me.
I sing in choirs and volunteer at a Buddhist centre with charity sales.
I love latin music and dancing is just part of life. I dance (and/or sing) in the living room, while cleaning the house, at work, on the bus... -:)
I am very open to new experiences and would be happy to share my cultures and languages (German and English) with others.

I only spent a week with Adrian, Ivan and the rest of the crew and it was a really nice experience.

They have a great spot next to the river, surrounded by nature. It's easy to explore the surroundings or go on a trip to Guatape or San Rafael. The bus passes regularly.

Me quedé 3 semanas en el hostal y fue una experiencia muy buena. Patricia y José Luis son muy buena onda y hicieron sentirme en casa desde el primer momento.

Es un hostal grande y siempre hay mucho que hacer. Durante mis primeras dos semanas estaba otra voluntaria y nos pusimos de acuerdo que yo ayudaba por la mañana y ella por la tarde.… read more Funcionó super bien. Ayudé con desayuno, preparar los lunchboxes, cobrar en la tienda, tender camas a veces, y revisar las reservaciones para cada día en Booking.com. Por la tarde cuando llegaron todos los huéspedes y hubo que hacer los check in, muchas veces trabajamos las dos.

Durante mi tercer semana la familia se fue de vacaciones y me encargaron revisar las reservaciones, recibir y en general atender a los huéspedes. Fue más responsabilidad que pensaba. Gracias por confiar en mi!!!

A cambio recibí tres comidas super ricas y de porciones super generosas y mi habitación privada.
José Luis y Patricia también organizaron todo para que la otra voluntaria y yo pudiéramos caminar las etapas 1 y 2 del 'Quilotoa Loop'. Estaban siempre flexibles y me permitieron otro día para caminar el sendero del cráter de la laguna Quilotoa con amigos que vinieron de Ambato a visitarme.

El pueblo de Chugchilán es súper tranquilo y super seguro. Pueden hacer senderismo y disfrutar de la naturaleza lo que quieran.

Extraño a este lugar hermoso y a la familia y el equipo de Patricia y José Luis.

I spent 3 weeks at the hostal and enjoyed the experience immensely. Patricia and José Luis are very friendly and made me feel welcome from the very first moment.

It's a big hostal and there's always lots to do. During my first two weeks I was sharing duties with another volunteer. I took the morning 'shift' and she the afternoon. It worked really well. I helped around the kitchen and with serving breakfast, with preparing the lunch boxes, taking payments, sometimes making beds, and with reviewing and printing off the reservations for the day, ready for check-in.
It gets busy in the afternoon when all the hikers arrive and often we both worked together during the peak check-in time.

During my third week the family went on holiday and left me in charge of checking the reservations, managing all check-ins, payments and guest requests. It was a lot of responsibility. Thank you Patricia and José Luis for trusting me and giving me this opportunity!

In exchange I received three super delicious and generous meals everyday, my private room, and help with excursions. José Luis and Patricia organised for the other volunteer and I to walk the first two parts of the Quilotoa Loop. It was super generous of them and we had a fantastic time hiking. They were always flexible with agreeing time off. Friends from Ambato came to visit me and I was able to walk the Quilotoa Lagoon crater rim with them, which was another full day.

Chugchilán and its surroundings are very beautiful and totally safe. If you like nature and walking you'll definitely enjoy this place.

I miss the Ecuadorian mountains and this kind family!

I spent 2 1/2 weeks with Rodrigo from Mid-december until New Year and it was one of the nicest Christmases I've had. I started the workaway on my own. After just under a week two American girls joined last minute.

Rodrigo is the nicest, most generous host imaginable. Communication pre-arrival was excellent. The accommodation is a self-contained… read more separate house on his land. It was absolutely luxurious in terms of WA accommodation and the terrace has the most amazing views across the valley.

I started off helping with painting at another property he was doing up. In between I did some cleaning and weeding and little jobs at his house. I was put on cooking duty some days. Mostly Rodrigo cooked and it was always absolutely delicious!
Rodrigo went out of his way to include me in his daily activities, teach me about Viña, Chilean dishes and life in ConCon.

After the other workawayers joined, he only took us to the property he was working on one more time. Unfortunately it meant during the week Rodrigo wasn't around much as he was working on the other renovation project. We continued weeding at his plot of land, cleaned the pond, planted some cacti and bits and bats. I wish we could have done more as what we received in return was priceless. Rodrigo even got us each a Christmas present!

His eldest son was the same age as the girls. They got on really well. He gave us lifts into Viña, took us to his football matches, we had movie marathons over Christmas and he even treated us to the cinema on our last day!

The only thing to be aware off is that Rodrigo's property is out of town, not connected by public transport. You rely on Rodrigo or his son to get you anywhere, which at times meant disrupting his day to get some shopping or complete other errands and I didn't get to see as much as I would have liked. If you can legally drive in Chile he'll lend you a car and it's definitely a bonus!

Pasé 2 semanas y media con Rodrigo desde 13 de Diciembre hasta año nuevo. Fue una de las navidades más inolvidables que he pasado. Al principio de mi workaway estaba solamente yo. Después de una semana llegaron dos chicas de los EEUU.

No hay anfitrión más amable o más generoso que Rodrigo. La comunicación con él antes de llegar era excelente. El alojamiento es en una casa separada, todo lujoso y súper amplio con unas vistas muy bonitas desde la terraza.

Mis primeras tareas eran pintar en otro casa que Rodrigo estaba renovando (no en ConCon, pero en un pueblo más al interior). Además realicé trabajos de mantenimiento, limpieza o en el jardín de la casa principal. A veces me encargó preparar la comida, pero la mayoría del tiempo Rodrigo cocinaba...todo riquísimo! Rodrigo siempre estaba muy atento y se esforzó en incluirme en sus actividades diarias. Me enseñó sobre Viña, platos típicos de Chile, la vida en ConCon, etc.

Después de que llegaron las otras chicas solamente volvimos a la casa de renovación una sola vez. El resto de los días trabajamos en el jardín de la casa de Rodrigo. Él mismo se fue al otro pueblo entre semana, para supervisar las renovaciones, así que lastimosamente no vimos mucho de él.
Me da un poco de pena que no hicimos más cosas, porque el no estaba para encargarnos más tareas. Rodrigo nos trató súper bien y lo que vivimos con el no tiene precio. Hasta nos compró un regalo de Navidad a cada una!

Su hijo mayor tenía la misma edad que las chicas y se llevaron súper bien. El nos llevó a Viña en coche varias veces, nos invitó a sus partidos de fútbol, hicimos un maratón de películas en Navidad y en nuestro último día con ellos nos invitó a una función del cine.

Lo único para notar es que la casa queda afuera de ConCon y no esta conectado al transporte público. La única manera de salir o ir a súper o algo es con Rodrigo o su hijo. A veces eso complicó las coas, porque ellos tenían que cambiar sus planes para llevarnos. No permitió tantas oportunidades para conocer lugares alrededor. Si tiene licencia para manejar en Chile les ayudará mucho y Rodrigo les prestará un auto.

No hay palabras para describir qué bien nos recibieron en casa de Guadalupe y Ricardo. Son gente súper amable, con corazones muy grandes. Fue nuestro primer workaway y fue genial. Desde el primer momento se preocuparon por nuestro bienestar y nos ayudaron mucho. El trabajo fue sencillo y interesante. Trabajamos alrededor de 4 horas el día. Siempre… read more nos dieron opciones de tareas. Nunca nos presionaron y siempre era variado. Nos indicaron caminatas muy bonitas para nuestras días libres. El alojamiento en una de las cabañas o el domo era de primera!!! No nos faltaba nada. Nos ayudaron con lavar ropa y con comida básica. Cuando bajaron a San Martin ofrecieron llevarnos en su coche (es una caminata de 1 hora 15 minutos , doble ida y vuelta, y no hay bus). Sus hijos son muy sociables y nos contaron mucho sobre la vida en San Martin. Nos enamoramos de todos los mascotas. Perros tan mimosas!!!! Compartimos charlas largas sobre Argentina, la región de Neuquén, la vida diaria, comida, costumbres....Nos enseñaron mucho. Nos invitaron a almorzar con la familia y hasta participar en la fiesta de cumpleaños de su hijo.
Muchas gracias Guadalupe, Ricardo, E. y Z. No vamos a olvidar nunca las casi tres semanas con ustedes. Fui una experiencia incredible.

There aren't enough words to describe the incredible time we had with Guadalupe and Ricardo. They received us with open arms. It was our first workaway and it was fabulous. From the very first moment they took care of us, always concerned for our well-being and super helpful. The work was not complicated and always interesting. We worked about 4 hours a day. They never pressured us and always gave us options of tasks to complete. On our free days we did some nice walks they recommended. The accommodation in one of the chalets or the domo was first class. We wanted for nothing. They helped us with washing clothes and basic food items. If they went into town, they offered to give us a lift (it's a 1 hr 15 minute walk one way, no bus).
Their sons are super sociable and taught us a lot about life in San Martin.
Were also totally in love with all the family pets. We had long chats about Argentina, the Nequen region, daily life, food, culture...we learned so much from them. On some days they invited us to lunch with the family and even included us in the birthday celebrations for one of their son's.
Thank you so, so much Guadalupe and Ricardo. We'll never forget the almost three weeks we spent with your family. It was an incredible experience.

Deixado pelo anfitrião (Help me with gardening, ...) para o Workawayer (Angela)

Angela and Loraine are the best! We miss them so much already!
Their god vibes, always ready to help and amazing skills!
Loraine has a gift painting beautiful murals! they turn out to be great putting plaster on the walls, which is quite an art!
Angela´s eye for detail is great, and sewing skill too!

We had an amazing time here!
It's a small hostel and it feels like you're part of a big family. Flor and Nuria are very experienced in having workawayers and have clear instructions and schedules.
Getting up for your morning shift before 7am when you've finished an evening shift at 11pm can be a bit tough, however the experience is 200% worth… read more
