I'm trying to organise a volunteering trip with my daughters for two weeks in July this year.

Hi hosts! We live in Minorca, a small island in Spain. I'd like to enrole as volunteer in July this year for 2 weeks along with my 2 daughters, aged 13 and 15. We are interested in places where we can help and also we can go sightseeing during the weekends.
I think it's time to show them other realities and let them feel the happiness of helping other people.
Also, the moment has arrived to try a new way of traveling, one that allows us to know deeper the culture of the country and its daily life, and if we can give you a hand along the way, that's a win-win!
I want to show them that even being young, they can make a difference in other people's live and also that can be a life changing experience for themselves.

Quais são suas habilidades?

I have a degree in Economics and I work at Minorca airport. Before, I worked as a teacher in a Secondary School. I enjoy learning new things, I'm good at coordinating, and I'm interested in cultures different from my own. I like meeting people; I'm an open-minded person and very organised. I also like cooking.
My daughters are both excellent students, they love children, and they're eager to teach any subject or babysit. They've both taken English classes since they were little and speak it quite well. They're also musically gifted. They attend the conservatory; my eldest, Abril, plays piano and percussion, and my youngest, Ivet, plays flute and viola. They're well-mannered and have traveled to more places than I could have ever dreamed of at their age. They're also comfortable with digital technology. Furthermore, they love arts, drawing and dancing.

My daughters do too, and my youngest loves to dance and is quite good at choreographies!

I was in Wasso along with my 2 teenage daughters for 16 days this July.
Overall it was a good experience. Salome and her team where extremely helpful. Her house is comfortable and the meals were very nice. They took care of us at all times. We even had to go to the doctor twice (that never happened to me before) and there was no problem.
Our … read more volunteering was based in Education because we asked for it. We tried to teach English, and Music through songs, and also corrected some Mathematics exercises and help hostel children with their homework. In the mornings, we usually went to visit some schools. Their way to teach is quite old-fashioned for us (repetition, memorizing...), therefore, I think we are giving pupils a new way to learn, although some teachers looked at us as if we were not doing anything or we were loosing our time trying to make children speak in English. The school level was quite good, contrary to what I thought before going there, but the English level at public schools was terrible. If you really want to make a good use of your time, you have to bring some classes planned, otherwise, you'll just be assisting the teacher while he/she may go away of the class.I found it quite difficult to find a correct balance.
In the afternoons, it is another story, you can do whatever you like with the hostel children because they are very easy. They speak good English and they are responsive. We left some flutes there and a keyboard, in case you want to go on with these instruments classes. They are smart.
We also learned a lot about Masai culture and Salome's crew were exceptional.
Furthermore, we went to Serengeti and to Ngorongoro N. P.
On the down site, we felt a little bit underused (if this word does exist), we wanted to do so much, that we felt we were loosing time when waiting for someone, or when an inconvenience happened or when we spent 9 hours at the hairdresser because the girls wanted their hair braided (totally our fault for not having asked before how long that would be!).
The other drawback was a miscommunication with the price of the safari. I spoke to Nikki and she was giving me the driver information, but afterwards the driver said these prices didn't include accommodation or park entrance fees (Ngorongoro only are 295$ to go down the crater). Although I asked repeatedly for this info, I was only given it the night before our departure for the safari, when nothing could be done. Finally the driver made us a little discount, but I didn't feel comfortable with all this matter, in Spain we say "clear accounts and thick chocolate", and that's the way we like it. I had asked for all this even before committing with them as I knew it would be a big amount of our travel budget, and I had also other prices from other organizations and friends, so I don't know if I'd have chosen this if I had had all this info in advance. So this is my advice: if you want to go on a safari, ask for the prices before and make sure they include everything (NP fees, food, accommodation, way back, hotels after the safari...), or find out the prices that are not included.
Anyway, as I said at the beginning, it was and overall good experience. I'm happy to have done it and we felt very much welcomed. Thanks a lot to all the team!
I'll be happy to answer any question in private you want to ask, I felt very helped before going there by so many other travelers that now I feel in debt with the workaway community!
