Hey, my name is Sofia, a 34 year old traveler.

I’ve always been a big traveler and explorer. As of now, thats my purpose in life, to live, to explore, to travel, to continue learning and growing in whatever way that might look given the present moment. That is probably how I would have liked to ultimately start and end this profile, with a simple; “Hi, my name is Sofia and I just want to live” but I’ll add a little more to set some kind of tone.

I’m a qualified yoga teacher, ashtanga primary series mostly. I'm self-studying daily, whether it be practical or theory. I really love it.

I worked as an artistic director, illustrator and textile/fashion designer for many years, all over the world. I have loved art and artistic expression ever since I can remember, whether that be drawing, painting, creating, designing - or/and - dance, movement, theatre, film, photography, writing e.t.c.

I really like being outside in nature, I’m very adventurous, love to explore, a friend of all animals, bugs and insects! I am interested in sustainability, farming, I really enjoy getting my hands dirty, working up a sweat and being physically active.

I’m reading and studying about the subjects I’m also presently experiencing and enjoy. Subjects like: yoga, meditation, philosophy, science.

What else can I say.. I’m very pro-active, independent, sociable, I tend to make connections very easily. I love people, interacting, sharing moments, exchanging stories. People can be pretty incredible. Throughout the world I’ve had the pleasure of surrounding myself with beautiful people, constantly transforming moments into great memories, dreams into reality and friends into family. Cheesy, but very true. Everything and everyone have become my teachers in life.

I’m happy in balance, there is not much I seek or long for anymore; surrendering to the essence of life itself.

I’ve traveled a lot in my life but never like this, never without an end date or having to return to a specific place at a specific time, but here I am.

I speak English, Portuguese and Spanish. Currently studying Sanskrit and Hindi, as India is where I spend most of my time. Being in and around nature is essential. I like creative projects, I'm an active person too, I like and welcome physical work and I'm very motivated, a quick learner.

Mayoor entrusts you with a lot of responsibility straight away and needs a lot of help around the farm. You get to accompany the whole cacao production and be a very active part of it which was brilliant. I’d say that being proactive and physically fit is a must while being there. It’s physically very challenging which is one of the things I… read more really enjoyed the most about this workaway. I had a lot of fun!

The farm is in a really beautiful location, very tranquil and green. Being there during the monsoon was pretty beautiful. Lots of butterflies around, with neon colours and gorgeous patterns. An endless amount of birds, even peacocks roam around the place. While working we got caught in a lot of monsoon rains, which I didn’t mind seeing as, the thunder storms and rainfall were moments to stop, be still and observe.. and honestly we were pretty much dirty and smelling of fermentation all the time, that it gave the illusion of feeling refreshed haha.

The interaction with the local team was beautiful. I loved working with them and not subsiding from any of the physical work. We all worked really hard and it is undoubtedly a team effort. It’s probably helpful to know that after every exhausting work load there’s an absolutely delicious meal from Kamala waiting for you! She’s such a wonderful cook! Don’t underestimate Mayoor in the kitchen either. Make sure he makes you his delicious mango milkshakes! They are the best! The fresh fruit, butter, milk, curd, kimchi, chocolate, all the food there honestly is outrageously good.

Mayoor was great, welcoming, easy-going, hard-working, dedicated to his farm and its progress and interesting to talk to. He’ll take you around places when there is free time. We visited some other farms, which was fun and educational. From other cacao farms to fruit farms and trips to local villages for food, snacks and some beers. While we were there the euro (football) was on, so it was a great way for us to unwind after a hard days work. When me and my partner arrived there were only 4 of us and by the time we left, we were around double that. Hanging out in the evening with everyone was great, we watched movies, played carrom, uno, talked, cooked together too - it was a really great team!

I would definitely go back and I look forward to doing so sometime in the future when Mayoor needs someone to possibly stay long-term to help him out with the production process or with volunteers but I'll definitely be more prepared during monsoon time as one of the biggest downsides was that my work laptop, as well as my partner's work laptop and camera got completely ruined from the extreme wet/dampness of the room we stayed in, which put a really big downer on our stay considering we had to get them fixed and it required quite a large sum of money.

All in all Mayoor, thank you so much for the experience and for all your teachings. I love this place dearly and I’m really thankful, and I look forward to our paths crossing again.
