Hey yall, my name is Shelby, I am from the United States. I traveled using workaway back in 2017/2018. I am currently traveling now for a year and a half. Living in many communities and different cultures around the world.
I graduated from university with a degree in Therapeutic Recreation. This specialized in working with children and adults in our communities with or without disabilities. I have gained experience for the past 11 years with individuals with disabilities of all ages. I have worked with children in many different settings such as schools, camps, nanny & family. I love combining the outdoors & animals with the people I work with, it creates a different, more relaxed setting. I strive to have my own program one day incorporating equine therapy & nature.
I wish to learn from new people, new cultures, new food, outdoor work, business set ups, maintenance, animals, gardening, and working harmoniously together in community settings. I have worked as a travel agent, in customer service/restaurants, with a tree trimming crew, on an olive farm, starting a community in the Philippians, festival set up, stable hand, childcare, a group tour leader in Southeast Asia & simply hospitality in many forms such as hostels, events, facilitating activities, and much more. I am a fast learner; I enjoy cleaning and am not afraid to get dirty.
I love the collaboration that flows while living in communities, an insightful side that comes from living with multiple humans, from different walks of life, bring in a new perspective on almost all encounters. I have always worked with people in every job; living, learning, communicating, and emotional regulation are a few categories I feel are a strong suit of mine.

Meeting new people and hearing their stories is my favorite way to learn. I look forward to indulging myself in the cultures I encounter. I want to keep learning as much as possible through these unique experiences with workaway. Workaway allows me to gain new skills, meet open-minded people, see cultures across the world and share my knowledge along the way.

I am currently in Europe finding my next move. I am feeling called to go a bit closer to "home"; Mexico or Central America is where I am looking to live for some time. At least 4 to 6 months I am looking to be in one place. I am open to give my time, energy & love to a new place out in this world. Setting roots for a bit after a while on the road. I am looking for a community to thrive with, learn with & live with.

Quais são suas habilidades?

The skills I have acquired are mainly people based skills. I can provide any personal care needs for an individual and can communicate effectively. I can provide labor and cleaning services, and the small amount of outdoor knowledge I have. I have worked with horses for a majority of my life at camps and through family farms. I feel comfortable around horses and providing therapy through them. I can provide another set of hands to learn any new set of skills presented in front of me.
