I'm Pablo and I'm currently not looking for doing volunteering so please don't send me requests, sorry.

I come from Chile, especially from the southern part of the country, also known as Patagonia. I have dual Chilean/Spanish nationality, although my roots and close family are from Chile. I arrived in Europe in August 2022 where I'm living in Germany through volunteering. My goal is to speak German, to find a place where I could live and study. I have my sister, her husband and her son in Germany where I go to visit them from time to time.

In Chile while I was studying at the university I worked in a tourism company called "Cabañas el Colono" in the Aysén region, located in the heart of Patagonia, where I was born and where I dedicated myself to do a variety of tasks, from cleaning rooms, maintenance of the establishment, gardening, to handling reservations and customer service. I also helped my brother who is a "Huaso" (Chilean cowboy) and he goes to Chilean rodeo competitions so I helped him with his farm animals and horses. This experience has allowed me to learn to be a versatile person and adapt to the needs of the job wherever I am.

Outdoor jobs are my favorite, but I'm also happy to clean homes. I like helping people, whether it's at home or doing outdoor tasks. In general, when I do something I like the job to be well done. I have some cooking skills but my strong is cleaning, organization of all kinds, helping with heavy jobs, gardening and I love to paint houses and furniture... it's my passion! and I am willing to learn and do new things that I can help with. I consider myself a person who likes order and cleanliness, but I won't hesitate if I have to get my hands dirty.

Quais são suas habilidades?
In Chile I worked for about 5 years in a family business of rural tourism. While I was studying for my degree as a Programming Analyst. I was part of the team of this great family project. There I worked as receptionist, maid, gardener and several maintenance jobs in the apartments, such as painting, some plumbing and carpentry tasks, cleaning the soot from the wood stove pipes, prepare firewood (using an axe or with a chainsaw) for the apartments and the main house. I lived a large part of my life with my brother helping him on his farm doing common tasks such as; feeding and caring for a variety of farm animals, fixing up dilapidated structures, helping with daily chores and being a companion to him.

I have experience in garden maintenance such as planting, watering, harvesting, orchard care and tree pruning. I have basic carpentry and plumbing skills but I am good at painting houses and furniture.

I have dual nationality, Spanish and Chilean, so I do not need a work visa and I have health insurance.

I have done farm, maintenance and cleaning volunteer work here in Germany since I arrived and I am interested in learning more types of jobs.

I had the great honor to host Pablo at my farm. His stay which was originally planned just for a couple of weeks but due to the very positive experience we extended his workaway to a period of more than four months. Whereas I had associated Patagonia (Chile) so far rather as an amazing travel destination, I learned from Pablo that permanent life… read more down there can be harsh and full of deprivation. This is why Pablo eventually decided to leave his home and explore alternative options for a new and better life in Europe. I was glad to assist and give him some guidance at the start of this journey.
In return Pablo over-performed any expectations I could have thought of with regards to the work at the farm. Among the pictures on his workaway profile, you won´t find a guy in front of fancy tourist attractions (such as many volunteers portraying themselves) but literally a Man-AT-Work in his rubber boots surrounded of a group of cattle. This had motivated me to choose Pablo and I was not disappointed. During his stay he managed after some induction quite autonomously the barn with some 10 horses including a comprehensive list of jobs to be carried out throughout the day. He quickly learned to drive the tractor including the handling of heavy weights such as hay-balls and a variety of trailers. He also led and supervised other short-term volunteers how to manage the various tasks which was a great relief for myself. Pablo was also instrumental in preparing the guesthouse for new guests. He learned a huge variety of skills including but not limited to fencing, making firewood, painting or using a multiple set of machines such as circular saws. When I had to leave the farm for a business trip for one full week, Pablo took over responsibility and manged during my absence the entirety of activities with regards to the farm and the guesthouse to my greatest satisfaction.
For the above reasons I am extremely grateful for the time Pablo spent with me and would wholeheartedly recommend other hosts to offer him a position in your project. Pablo also knows that he would be welcome to return to Otersen any time whether for a workaway or just for a visit as a friend.
Espero finalmente que Pablito los haga felices con su famosa tortilla patagónica. Durante su estadía, incluso mejoró sus habilidades culinarias y está en su mejor camino para convertirse en un maestro de cocina de algunos platos alemanes como "Schnitzel".
