Hi!

I am Maya from Germany.

One year ago I went on my first backpacking trip to Central America.
There I learnt very much about myself and developed a lot of self confidence and excitement for new countries and cultures.
This time I am traveling through South east Asia and my trip is gonna be around 8 months in total.

My plan is to study social work next year, after I get back from my travels, because I enjoy working with people.

I am a passionate singer and songwriter and love all kinds of music. Especially jam circles, live music and ecstatic dance.
In my free time, I like being outside in the nature, hiking, climbing and cherishing amazing views.

Moreover, I appreciate being surrounded by open-minded people and I am always intrigued to hear new stories and have long chats about different topics.

Quais são suas habilidades?
My skills are mainly social and linguistic. While I was home last year, I worked a lot with people.
I did promotional jobs, where I had to actively approach customers to sell them different things.
Furthermore I worked as a cashier in a drug store and managed the rental and cleaning of my father‘s flat while he was away for a long journey.
Additionally, I’ve worked as a soccer coach for young children for over two years. Working with children is my passion.

Though, since I‘ve only worked in social areas so far, I would like to improve my manual skills on this trip. I am a very creative person and would like to learn how to garden and how to do carpentry.
But overall I am looking forward to any kind of work and I am very open to learning new things as well as contributing my own ideas.

Wow, where should I even start? My time here at the social hostel was just amazing! I loved everything about it, the people, the vibe, the location 🤌🏻

This is such an amazing place. I stayed there for two weeks and my experience was great through and through.
The work is so much fun and I learned how to work with bamboo and many different types of tools.
You’re so free to work on whatever you like and it made me have all these creative ideas.
At first it can feel a bit overwhelming because… read more there are so many options what you could build but after a couple of days you‘ll definitely have an idea and I loved that I could just try things on my own without overwhelmingly much advice.

MD and Reza are the loveliest hosts you could imagine. I felt so welcome from the first second and I appreciated that they are really interested in getting to know the people that work with them. They are putting so much effort and love in this whole project and always make sure everyone is having a great time. It’s also such a beautiful and peaceful place to calm down and feel inspired.
All of the guests that stayed there were so lovely and it was really interesting to have conversations with the local people.
There is definitely not much to do around the camping site but it didn’t bother me at all because the retreat is really a great place to be, work and relax.

Regarding food, we cooked for ourselves and there is a manual motorcycle you can use to drive to a supermarket (about 15 mins away). But don’t worry if you can’t drive. MD took 3 of us to a huge supermarket one day and makes sure that everyone will get food somehow.

Other than that, I stayed in the tent first, which is really clean and comfortable. And then after a few days I got one of the two rooms in the house. It’s such a comfy room and I enjoyed having my little suite for my own 🙏🏻

In the mornings I sat down at the river sometimes and mediated or played the guitar. It’s just the most beautiful feeling ever to sit at that river in the middle of the jungle and listen to the sounds of nature.
There are so many animals and everyday you see and experience something new. (Saw Monkeys, Scorpions, Snakes, Lizards, Lemur, Chickens, Cats and loads of geckos)
We had a few really special music nights at the bonfire and it just felt like home 🫶🏻

I‘m gonna miss the chill and peaceful work atmosphere a lot and I‘m grateful for all the special memories I take with me from that wonderful place.
A big thanks to MD and Reza that are such sweet, kind, selfless and funny people! Thank you for having me and for your hospitality. I would always come back and do it all again!! I can 100% recommend this place if you’re looking for a lil home feeling while traveling and want to settle and be in nature for some time.
