Hello!
My name is Kana, and I’m from Kyoto, Japan. I’m 23 years old.

I worked full-time in Tekapo, New Zealand for five months as a FOH (front of house) staff member at a hotel restaurant under a working holiday visa. It was an amazing experience, and I learned a lot about hospitality and teamwork.

Now, I’m excited to travel around the North Island of New Zealand!

I don’t have experience in gardening, painting, or farming yet, but I’m always happy to try new things. Before coming to New Zealand, I had never worked in a hotel or made coffee, but now I feel confident working in hospitality and preparing coffee. I am a hard worker, and during my five months at the hotel, I never missed a shift.

I love playing tennis, learning languages, eating ice cream, and singing.
・I was a member of the tennis club in junior high and high school.
・I studied Korean, Chinese, German, Spanish, Hindi, and Persian at university.
・I want to try as many different kinds of ice cream as possible while I’m in New Zealand because I think New Zealand has the best ice cream!
・I love singing, even though I’m not very good at it. At university, I joined a musical club where we performed Broadway shows. I performed in Grease and Sister Act, and it was such a fun experience.

I’m not very good at cooking yet, but I’m eager to learn! I’m also interested in learning how to play the guitar and how to knit.

I am very interested in learning new languages, and I am currently studying Hindi. I am also interested in teaching Japanese, as it is my native language. In 2024, I worked as an intern assistant to a Japanese language teacher at a high school in Palmerston North, New Zealand. Through this experience, I supported students in learning Japanese and gained valuable teaching experience.

I love going to K-pop concerts! In Japan, I have been to 20 concerts of the same artist. Thanks to them, I became very motivated to study Korean, and it helped me improve my language skills a lot.

When I become interested in something, I like to dive deep and fully commit to it.

That’s why, even though I may not have many specific skills yet, I believe that through this Workaway experience, I can learn quickly and become skilled in many new things!
