Hello! I am Jasper Khoo. Nice to meet you!

I am from Ipoh, Malaysia, the same hometown as Hollywood and Marvel actress Michelle Yeoh.
I am a kind, patient, mature, hard workimg and reliable person. I have strong work ethics, and I am responsible young man.
I just graduated from my Master degree last year in Paris.
I have seven Workaway experience.
I can speak five languages, and I am learning Danish now.

About myself, I love to learn different cultures, cuisines, reading and art. I like animals and interested in learning more about gardening and agriculture.
I made several paintings of the fjords in Faroe Islands between 2022 to 2023.
I graduated from Texas in USA in May 2018, and I have several career experience, good with computer.

Volunteer experience:
When I was volunteering in Australia in May 2019, I helped my host in cleaning the house, wiping the windows, help her to rearrange her art room. She brought me to the blue mountains, and I love spending time with her in watching movies and video clips.

In New Zealand, I once worked in a vegan farm ( I am not vegan, but just experiencing different perspective) , pulling out weeds, gardening. In another family in Christchurch, the host family brought me to their parents home, and to the mountains, it is very interesting to experience the local culture. Another host in Auckland gave me the opportunity to check out retiring lifestyle, joining local clubs, gathering, and we did a lot of talking. There, I have a chance to meet a Japanese friend who tells me about her world travelling experience.

In 2022, on Faroe Islands, the volunteering experience was extraordinary, I cooked her and her family dinner everyday. I cooked local fish soup, Middle Eastern food, burger, Asian cusine, and many more. The family drove and brought me to see all the breath-taking sceneries. I told the host I love painting and art, then she drove me to the town to get high quality paint, brush and canvas.

In 2023, I went to Denmark for volunteering, helping in deep cleaning, taking care of dogs, and gardening.

I was staying in Barny’s place for two weeks in August 2023.

I asked Barny three times if there are other options to bath and clean myself instead of going to the public mixed sauna. So, the challenge was conquered, he showed me a traditional method inside the apartment with mugs and vessels (you stand inside a large vessel, use a mug to scope… read more tap water mixed with hot boiled water, with old towels and cloth lying underneath), and I made it. So, the bathing problem is solved on the second day.

When you come to Barny’s place, you need to have an open mind, a heart that is ready to accept many challenges. When you come to Christiania, you bring a heart to learn, not to change it. Fortunately, I conquered them as Barny is also helping me to look into the way, break my conservative and stereotypical mindset.

It is important to be honest with Barny, because most Danes will unfriend people who are not frank, and not trustworthy. He accepted my mistakes, and also has a big heart to solve misunderstanding quickly. When there are some needs or issues from me, he also tries his best to accommodate. For example, the bicycle seat is too high for me, without doubt, he gets the solution to lower it for me immediately. When my mouse for my computer is broken, and I thought that I have to throw it away, he provided me the tools for wielding, and screw driving, “resurrected” my mouse.

I helped in pulling out bad plants in his garden, taking his dogs out when he is unable to, cleaning and arranging things in the main hallway, picking up too good to go, watering the plants and helping with new technologies. Barny also help me to know his friends, and the Christiania community. Great way to meet new people and friends.

There are at least six recycling materials: hard plastic, soft plastic, metal, dirty plastic, glass, cardboard, paper, composition etc., so this must be the first thing to know on the first day. If you are dusting, he has masks and gloves, ask for it. Barny saves a lot of water, and I checked up that Denmark has the most expensive water bill in Europe, about 9 euros per meter cube if not mistaken, so please be aware of that. Bring earplugs, because Saturday night, there might be concerts 200 meters away from the building at the stage that play until late night. Eye covering for summer, because there is no curtains, or maybe someone will install one soon? Indoor sandals will be very helpful to move around inside the house.

Overall, the best thing about Barny is his life experience and advice. He shares lots of valuable knowledge and inspirational words.

Excellent experience with Maree. She introduced her friends to me, brought me to several tourist places. One of the most amazing trip was going to Yatte Yatta and Milton Cottage where we were able to watch Kangaroos. Maree is a woman full of life experience, and she loves to share them. Overall, I could said she is a fantastic host!
