Hi everyone! I'm Giosuè, a 23 yo student from Asti (near Turin), Italy.
I study at ITS Greentech to become a Technical Project Manager. I'm deeply connected to nature and the mountains and I'm a mountaineer and alpinist, used to physical challenges and respecting the environment. I'm coming to Scandinavia because I admire your leadership in sustainability. I'm also a photography enthusiast, always looking for the perfect shot of a landscape. I want to help with green projects while improving my English fluency.

Quais são suas habilidades?

I'm currently a student, so I'm still building my professional skills. However, I have a very practical approach to learning. In my studies at ITS, I'm gaining a good foundation in how energy systems work. I’m not an expert yet, but I’m a fast learner and I’m used to using tools and solving small technical problems. My past experiences have taught me to be reliable and to take responsibility for the tasks I'm given. My experience with alpinism taught me discipline, teamwork, and how to stay focused under pressure, qualities I try to bring into my work. I’m also a hobbyist photographer, so I’m happy to help you document your project or take some nice shots of the property if you need it!

Writing a review of a person is for me something strange, so I think I will write instead how I felt during my time in Dragør, because honestly that's what really stayed with me the most.

The first thing I think about is our daily routine, every morning Dorte asked me how the night went, if I slept well, and every night we said good morning and … read more good night, always. It might sound like nothing but I was waiting for it every day and I understood how much I needed it only after some time, not right away.

I worked a lot in the garden and also on a wall that divides the property from the street, and both times I understood, again and again, how happy and grateful they were for what I was doing, not with big words but with small comments, or just from the way they looked at the finished work. I can't really point to one single moment, it was more like a lot of small moments together that made me understand I was appreciated.

There was one evening, not many days before I had to leave again, I was telling them that I felt a bit sad about going away, and Dorte told me that now we were a family, that I had found a family in Dragør. I still don't really know how to explain what that sentence made me feel, being treated well as a guest is one thing, but being told words that important is something completely different.

There are so many other things I could try to write but I think some things can't really be explained with words, you have to live them to understand. What I can say is that in a short time Dorte and Søren didn't just host me, they made me feel like I was truly part of their family.

When I had to leave Dragør to go to Samsø I didn't expect to feel what I felt, a big wave of sadness hit me and that's when I understood that leaving again wasn't just going to a new place but was leaving a real home.

If any of you are thinking about doing a Workaway with them, just do it, not only for what you learn or do there, but for how you feel. You will never be just a helper in their house, you will be part of their life for a while, and this will stay with you for a long time after you leave, of course if you are willing to open yourself to this, we talked about it often, it's a meeting where strangers decide to live together and it's not necessarily said that it works, you have to want it I think, and they are definitely the first ones who want it.

Thank you Dorte and Søren for everything, I really hope I can come back soon. I will carry this with me forever, and remember also you are special people!
