We are both very interested in gardening and outdoor work. We are both confident in the use of strimmers and lawn mowers and other hand tools. Able to drive a quad bike with a trailer. For six months, since arriving in New Zealand we worked as gardeners. Elliot worked in native tree planting and maintenance and Shion in a native plant nursery.

Elliot - Hi I'm Elliot, and what really brings me happiness is being being outdoors, or in the sea. I also love meeting new people, this being the main reason why I am on Workaway. I am easy going, helpful, and will try my hand at basically anything! I also enjoy generally keeping fit and active. I am a keen baker, and love sharing bakes with others.

Shion- Hi, my name is Shion. What I love most in the world is to be active, using my body and my hands. In England I worked as a marine biologist on a boat and this has ignited a passion for working outdoors and in nature. At my job, I was in charge of organising research projects and doing data collection and analysis. I am a PADI dive master and a BSAC snorkel leader. I love gardening, swimming in the sea and most recently I have an interest in carpentry.

Shion is fluent in English and is conversationally fluent in Japanese. She can also speak some Spanish. Elliot is fluent in English and is learning Japanese. We are interested in using our English skills to teach.

Quais são suas habilidades?

- Elliot also has had basic use of a chainsaw, chainsaw maintenance and the felling of small trees

Before coming to New Zealand, we got to work on four workaways in Japan. This included a kiwi farm, homestead, gardens of a hundred-year old Japanese home and a community gardens. We gained hundreds of hours of experience in gardening including growing vegetables, pruning, weeding, spraying and planting. We have also got basic DIY skills including building and fixing fences, dry-walling and plastering and light carpentry. As a teen, Elliot often helped his painter-decorater dad on jobs and so has lots of experience and knowledge here!

We also tended to an allotment for a few years when we lived in the UK. We have grown all sorts of vegetables and herbs from seed including garlic, carrots, potatoes, courgettes, beetroot and Thai basil. Shion has also led the tending of our garden. She has planted up a range of unique beds with native plants and biodiversity in mind.

We also both have experience with children. Elliot was a member of the Scouts for many years and Shion worked in a Japanese holiday school in London for ~10 years. Elliot and Shion also have previous hospitality experience in various pubs and bars. Shion is a keen cook and has experience working as a prep chef in restaurants.

Elliot is a keen baker, and communicator. He loves talking to new people, and hearing their stories. Workaways in which he can socialise with others would be well-suited to him. Shion also plays piano, and would be able to teach to a beginners level. She also can knit, crochet and sew, having learnt as a child from her grandmother.

We are both hardworking, fast learners, and are very willing to expand on skills that we already have as well as learn about anything you are willing to teach us.

We both love the sea, and are keen surfers (though still learning!). It would be great to share this with you if we end up by the sea!
We are both qualified scuba divers and spend a lot of time in the water swimming, diving, surfing and Shion has recently started learning to sail. We also play a bit of chess, but Elliot is not so great. Maybe you could teach us!?
We also really enjoy a good film or good books. It would be great to exchange some recommendations.
