Hello world! My name is Edwin and I'm planning to come and visit you for a few days or 1, 2, 3, or 4 weeks, in your country somewhere during the period from March to December 2024!

I'd love to help you with tourism and hospitality work, photography, webdesign, SEO, social media, language, or anything related to these, or simply a few hard working chores, and having fun and exchanging stories about travel and life in general. Below I'll explain why you might want to contact me.🎁

STUDYING THE WORLD
I was born and raised in the beautiful city of Gouda in The Netherlands, famous for its cheese 🧀😊
A little later, in the fabulous cities of Amsterdam and Hong Kong, I studied the world: Geography, International Relations, and Asian History, with great joy, and with excellent results 😉✔🌍

TRAVELLING THE WORLD
I've also traveled passionately across our wonderful, mutually shared planet🌍: to paradise islands like Bonaire and Bali, and from here in the Low Countries all the way up to one of the world's highest places, Gokyo, near Mount Everest. I feel blessed to have celebrated Holi in the holy city of Vrindavan, in the spiritual heart of India, and for a few months, I've also lived with a local family in then war torn East Timor - a beautiful country yet rarely visited and at the time uniquely governed by the United Nations. In 2019, I have traveled to the majestic desert landscape of Wadi Rum in Jordan 🐪 There, I optimized a website for a great Workaway host and his adventure tour company and camping situated in the heart of the same red desert where the legendary Lawrence of Arabia once lived. I'm proud and humbled to say, that traffic to the website increased sixfold🌍✔, and many of the pictures now on the website were made by me.📸

SKILLS: PHOTOGRAPHY, WEBSITES, SOCIAL MEDIA, TOURISM, HOSPITALITY, AND LANGUAGES
Apart from occasionally coming up with bright ideas, one of my skills is, indeed, photography - a hobby from since I was only 9 years old. I love to study the work of the great masters of photography: Steve McCurry, Michael Wolf, William Eggleston, and Jimmy Nelson are among my favorites. Obviously, I will take my Nikon with me, along with my laptop, to create some amazing images for you.📸

Until 2020, I worked as a part-time digital nomad, managing two databases on my laptop💻, and recently, I have gained a wide range of knowledge about digital marketing (SEO and SEA), of WordPress, of webdesign, and of coding websites in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I did a number of courses - on my LinkedIn page you can see the certifications - on Google Ads, Google Analytics, User Experience Design (UX), Customer Experience Design (CX), conversion rate optimization (CRO), customer webcare, social media strategy, copywriting, graphic design, Photoshop, Illustrator, and so on.
All of these come in very handy to improve, optimize, design, or redesign your website, or web page, manage your social media, and I'd love to further enhance your website during or even after my stay!🌍 ✔

Apart from this, I am a certified tour guide, tour manager/tour leader, and camping host. For years, I have worked with great pleasure in hospitality and tourism - including at the well-known Anne Frank House - and have been a supervisor of up to 16 people at a major congress centre. I have been professionally trained in guest relations, in first aid, and even in putting out fires!

LANGUAGES
As a polyglot globetrotter🌍, I speak at least six languages, from basic Indonesian, and intermediate Spanish and French, to fluent Dutch, German, and English. This can of course be really helpful to you as a host! I'd love to learn even more languages - starting with learning your native language from you! I could teach you Dutch, or improve your English, if you like 😉!

HOBBIES & PERSONALITY
Along with photography, my hobbies include walking (and talking), running, hiking, trekking, biking, swimming, and travelling, but - good for you - not singing 🙃

My friends and family would describe me as hard working, smart, responsible, yet really fun and sociable. I have a friendly, positive and welcoming attitude to life and people in general, and an adventurous can-do mentality to new tasks and tough challenges, which I am more than happy to take on!

I love working with people in general, I care about nature and the environment, love animals, and also like children. I have two young nieces, whom I've babysitted and childminded often.

I highly recommend staying with Paul! Last September, I've stayed with Paul for about a week. I've helped improve his multilingual WordPress website and overall online presence. I worked on both visual and more technical aspects of his website - enhancing user experience, accessibility, and SEO - including by adding contact info and a contact… read more page, a blog page, and legal pages, changing the navigation and footer menus, installing and testing a few plugins, adding a favicon, pointing to meta data, alt texts, and link building, and changing a few colours, shadows, icons, hover effects, and headers, etc. Also important has been optimizing his Google My Business account. For a number of weeks after my stay, I've continued to improve aspects of the website – something I'm happy to do for hosts, if I can make time to do so. While it's always key and has been very valuable to have gotten to know Paul in person, I've really enjoyed the instructive communication online afterwards as well.
Originally from the sunny south of France, well-traveled, intelligent and friendly Paul lives in a beautiful wooden house set amidst the forested peninsula south of Oslo, overlooking a picturesque bay. His place is an ideal location to go sightseeing in Oslo, as it is only one hour in total by bus and ferry. Oslo itself is a great place to visit, with unique Nobel Peace Prize sites, great museums, floating saunas, and the zip line of the Holmenkollen ski jump. You can also make some beautiful walks from Paul's place, along the water (beware of ticks), and into the countryside.
I had my own bedroom with a view of the water, the autumn trees, and the golden sunrise. Half of my time in Nesoddtangen, there was also another workawayer staying, in a bedroom of her own. I enjoyed discussing globetrotting and online marketing with her. We were provided with (food for) three nutritious and tasty vegan meals a day, a number of them cooked by Paul. As prices tend to be relatively high in Norway, it is advised to communicate in advance about what food you prefer.
Paul is an excellent and experienced host who made a successful effort to create a special atmosphere in his home, including by offering meditation. His house is also tidy and clean – despite it was in renovation at the time – and understandably he is keen on keeping it as such. Merci pour tout, Paul!

Edwin stayed only 1 week at my place. I was stressed and busy and was not always a perfect host. But he has been very adaptable to the work and the situation.
He helped me mainly with webdesign and SEO, and he was efficient.
He is an intelligent person with a good sense of humour, pleasant to have around.

If you’re looking for a great adventure in a very special place, I highly recommend staying with Raad in Wadi Rum! He is a very social and welcoming host, and a great jeep driver in the desert sand : ) Along with his large and caring family, I was taken well care of when I stayed with them for two weeks - a few months before the current pandemic… read more broke out. They provided me with three excellent meals a day. Half the time, I stayed in their characteristic village of camels, jeeps, and a few hundred inhabitants. I slept and ate in a large air conditioned room, which during the day was used to welcome tourists heading for the desert camp, and for the family to watch football about once a week. On other days, I slept in the campsite in the red desert, where I had my own tent, and was given meals cooked the Bedouin way: beneath the desert sand. On a few starry, starry nights a camp fire was lit. I was taken on two jeep tours through the magnificent red and white deserts. On the second, I even got to guide some of the guests on a few short rock climbing routes. I also made hundreds of photos, many of which can now be found on the campsite’s website, which I redesigned, and optimized further technically. Since wifi was not always available in the desert, despite Raad doing his best to provide me with it, I decided to work for a while longer back home in Holland, restructuring the website, improving SEO, adding info for search engines, internal and external links, uploading many of my own pictures, and so on. Web traffic quickly increased as a result. In Wadi Rum, I also answered messages on social media, improved the Booking page, and invited an influencer to the campsite for extra exposure. I also did some chores like cleaning up the garden and made sure no rubbish was left in the UNESCO protected landscape, which once hosted Lawrence of Arabia. (Do watch the movie!) Guests came from all over the world. With many of them I’ve had excellent conversations and became friends with a number of them. In the village, I befriended two other Workawayers who happened to be hosted by the neighbors. We made a few walks towards a Nabatean ruin, and up the rocky hills surrounding the village to an uphill water spring. They later told me they held a small photo exhibition in Austria of some of the pictures I had taken! All in all, an unforgettable experience, and I highly recommend workawaying with Raad in Wadi Rum! Shukran jazilan, Raad!

My Workaway with Fabrizio was great. I spent a week at his house in lovely Mondello, halfway up a hill overlooking Palermo, and a 10-minute bike ride from the beach.
