Descrição

Our names are Claudia and Peter, a practical, down-to-earth couple from New Zealand.

After many years of working for the Otago Regional Council, Pete has his own business doing rabbit control on high country stations and lifestyle blocks. In his spare time he loves reading, sharing knowledge and inventing useful devices in his workshop.

My professional background is in wildlife filmmaking, writing and ecotourism. For five years I worked for the Department of Conservation in environmental outreach and education. More recently I was a wildlife guide for Elm Wildlife Tours, enthusing people from around the world about sea lions, fur seals, penguins and albatross (all of which we're lucky enough to have near to where we live).

We love being home, but every once in a while we're drawn to life off the beaten track. One of our recent adventures was living and working on a remote subantarctic island. Pete was hunting team leader for 1.5 years, and I worked on the project as a filmmaker and hunter for 9 months. This involved living within a very small community, mostly in field huts, traversing rough terrain with a heavy pack in often adverse conditions.

We both have a farming background - so we know about running livestock and animal care, gardening, and general maintenance. I had a horse when I was younger, and riding has always remained an interest. Currently we have several sheep and a cat.

We also have carpentry skills. Three years ago we built our own log house on a 2.4 hectare block of land by the ocean. We're both interested in learning more about living off the grid.

Pete and I are both hard workers, have a great sense of humour, and love to share stories.

We have a go at pretty much everything, and love the outdoors and getting our hands dirty.

Pete's a Mr Fix-It kind of guy, with plenty of practical knowledge and expertise in living off the land. He's extremely well-read. Claudia enjoys working outdoors and with people, especially when it involves sharing knowledge about the natural world.
