  • Descrição

(My France dates are 10th of October to the 4th of November with some flexibility.)

I'm a huge nature lover and avid film/ art/ literature glutton. I majored in Cognitive Science in the US and currently work for a film production company in Berlin.

In my free time I swim, draw, do yoga, go hiking etc. My steadiest hobbies are writing and reading. My foci for the summer are teaching myself video editing and woodworking, and taking advantage of my freedom to cook manically. I enjoy any sort of manual labour, especially building / fixing things. I also love board and roleplaying games (Dnd player and wannabe-DM), cards, backgammon, etc.

During Covid I took a gap year and worked in Athens, then spent all my savings on a VFR Private Pilot's License. I'm very financially responsible, just not when it's my finances. I'm also a licensed Rescue Diver and essentially a fish. I have sporadic but significant sailing experience.

I grew up most of my life in a small town in Greece, shrivelling up in the sun or scrambling around in the mountains, surrounded with animals. I'm more than comfortable around flora and fauna and have recently gotten into mushroom foraging.

I first made a workaway profile to affordably backpack around Latin America for a year before university (way back in 2017). I ended up not using it and finding gigs by showing up places and asking. It probably didn't help that I was traveling with no internet and a phone that stayed on 20 minutes at a time. I worked mostly in restaurants and hostels.

I've been in Berlin for a year and a half and my feet are itching again. I'm directionless and just want to keep learning new things, meeting new people — the classics. In the far future the dream is to run a small hotel or vineyard / art-collective in a seaside town and make silly movies for fun. I know some things about wine, mostly Italian. Hoping to get WSET certifications when I'm not saving to meander the globe.

Mais detalhes sobre meu interesse em idiomas
I was also fascinated by Psycholinguistics in college. I'm currently learning Italian, which has beautifully merged with my Spanish so I can confidently say I'm fluent in Spitalian. Teaching-wise, I was a French Teaching assistant in university and have about a year and a half's worth of experience planning and teaching classes once a week as well as one-on-one tutoring. I like to learn and teach through exposure/ cultural exchange, but can also lead formal lessons.

  • Quais são suas habilidades?

I am a decent artist (mostly line art).
I am a great "fridge-cook", i.e. coming up with good meals with whatever is on hand (and I absolutely love it). I also love cooking intricate things when I have the resources and time.
I've done some gardening, which I very much enjoy, and would love to improve my skills. I am easy to instruct and I learn quickly.
I love children and am very experienced at babysitting having taken care of my half-siblings (who are now 11 and 9), as well as other toddlers in the neighborhood since I was 10. I additionally took care of a teacher's ten-year-old disabled boy for about two years in the UK, as part of a volunteer program.
I started training in Shotokan Karate while living in Greece, and continued for 12 years. When I briefly lived in the United States (2013/14) I joined a dojo and quickly became a senpai/ teaching assistant, leading kids' classes.

A quick summary of prior experience with workaway:

The first was at a restaurant in El Remate, Guatemala, where I was mainly a waitress, but also helped with marketing to tourists, shopping, food prep, washing dishes and cleaning. I also repainted the restaurant and decorated it with my watercolours (as requested.)

Throughout July, August, and September I was a crewmember on call for a catamaran sailing from Florida to California through the Panama Canal, stopping at numerous Central American countries. As a crew member, I was responsible for shopping, food prepping, cooking, cleaning and, simply put, heeding the captain's orders. The catamaran sailed from port to port for one week to ten days every month.

After leaving the boat I worked in Bocas del Toro at a hostel on Solarte Island. It was spontaneous. I was recovering from a fractured toe and started talking to a volunteer who introduced me to the manager. After a brief conversation I got hired for a month. It was a very different experience to my previous ones, seeing as the hostel was much more popular amongst tourists than my previous more "local" gigs. I bartended, waitressed, helped stock, and did check ins. It was an amazing experience during which I met a lot of people. I am happy to say I got complimented for my social skills with the guests, my languages helped a lot, and the family style dinners required us to know all our guests by name.

From there I essentially kept accepting hostel gigs throughout my travels. I backpacked around Central America, then flew down to Patagonia. I then hitchhiked/ bussed back up, until I reached Bolivia, then Peru, and ended in Colombia. My longest jobs were six weeks at a quiet hiker's hostel in Puerto Natales, near Torres del Paine, Chile, and four weeks in Bariloche, Argentina. Since I was on a budget I ended up unfortunately having to avoid most of the more popular hikes, (like Machu Picchu), but that only opened me up to more opportunities (such as river-canyoning with a fellow backpacker, a local teenager as a guide, and zero equipment).
