Hi there!

We’re Alvaro and Helena and we've joined Workaway to travel the world gathering experiences, help building beautiful projects and learn from awesome people.

As a young international couple (Spanish + Czech), we have been living and traveling together for the last 3 years. We are now planing a long term exploration of Asia (starting from Malaysia and Indonesia), with a mix of periods of self-funded slow travel, participation in Workaway projects, and the development of some personal side-businesses.

We both have worked in translation, hospitality, video production, and language teaching.

Professionally, Alvaro has more experience with biotechnology, cyber security and programming, while Helena has more experience in care, psychology, and gardening.

We don't drink, smoke, nor eat animal products, but, of course, we accept people who do otherwise. And we love cooking for others! We are pretty adaptable and can find comfort and joy in most places.

A bit more about each of us:

--Alvaro (Spanish, 26):

Passionate about technology, languages, cooking and biology.

I have volunteered before through the WWOOF platform and I did so in the beautiful land of Okinawa (Japan) and Taiwan.
There, I experienced farm work, hostel keeping, animal feeding, cooking, permaculture, salt-making, bread-making and natural construction among others.

I made many great friends there as I love meeting people from other cultures, religions and backgrounds.

--Helena (Czech, 23):

Passionate about permaculture, crafts, slow living, and sustainability, I am deeply interested in exploring new ways for society to reconnect with its essence.

My volunteering experience includes teaching and caring for both children and the elderly, which I found incredibly rewarding.

Living, studying, and working in Scotland and Spain for several years, along with traveling for several months around Southeast Asia, gave me the opportunity to make wonderful friends and experience different cultures through the amazing people I met.

We are really passionate about language learning and teaching. Alvaro, a native Spanish speaker, has experience teaching Spanish, English and Mandarin, while Helena, a native Czech, has experience teaching English, Spanish and Czech. Alvaro also speaks some: German, Japanese, Czech, French, Italian, Greek, Hindi. Helena also speaks some: German. We are both excited about learning Bahasa Melayu/Indonesia!!
