Currently we are living in Colorado Springs,CO. We are looking for an opportunity to continue our passions of animal care ( and learning new skills in construction, farming gardening & house/pet sit.

We met at an eco-retreat center on the Big Island of Hawaii and have since worked and lived in Alaska, Greece, and New Zealand. Jeremy is 40 and Alexandra is 33.

We both grew up on the west coast of the U.S. - Alexandra in Oregon and Jeremy in California. We have experience working in restaurants - in customer service and food preparation - as well as have a passion to continue evolving the wonderful endless recipes of vegan / vegetarian food (dietary preference).

Now we really want to learn more about growing our own food too. We’re drawn to untouched natural landscapes and love to hike and to be near the beach.

In 2024, we would like to continue our travels within the U.S. - ideally in a farm stay. We’re excited to learn from experienced farmers, assist in animal caretaking, continue to learn construction and woodworking skills and as well to make meals from produce we had a hand in growing ourselves.

Jeremy and Ally came to our Texas farm with plans of staying for three months and ended up with us for almost a year. With their help, we got SO MUCH done!

Not only did they take part in the daily animal routine, they also helped with our short term rental cabins, our gardens, and tackled many construction jobs on our property.

Animals on our… read more farm include horses, goats, chickens, ducks, cats & dogs, and a tortoise. Jeremy and Ally took part in all capacities. From birthing baby goats, to keeping them all fed, exercised and pampered (daily mucking of shelters and general upkeep). With all the animal poo generated on the farm, we create a lot of compost and Jeremy and Ally became master compost turners, flipping all six of our bins in a matter of days, at least once a month.

Construction projects were numerous! One of the first jobs we tackled was building a large closet and loft space in an unfinished bedroom. By the end of the first week, they had mastered the tools and were on their way, working with non-traditional framing, built-ins, and LOTS of tongue and groove wood. They also spent days painting and distressing wood to
cover the walls of a large unfinished space, that is now really beautiful because of their touch. They completed general electrical work running lights and plugs and some basic plumbing , helping us replace a toilet in one of our cabins.

Gardening tasks included building four very large above-ground beds and trellises, planting seeds, pruning, fertilizing, harvesting and prepping for long-term storage. They also made many special meals for everyone in the house, including LOTS of quiche, which was a great solution for the massive amounts of eggs our chickens and ducks laid during the warmer
months.

The short-term rental cabins on our property require continuous upkeep, which Jeremy and Ally took part in on a weekly basis. They inspected the cabins after guests checked out, collected trash & recycling, balanced hot tubs, prepped cabins for incoming guests and, in some emergency situations (when I made scheduling mistakes with the cleaners), cleaned
the cabins! They also met guests and checked them in on the occasions that we weren’t available to do so.

With Jeremy and Ally here, we were able to take several trips away from the farm, both for work and play. We trusted them in all capacities and loved that they cared for our animals as excessively as we do. They farm-sat for us during a family trip to Costa Rica which was originally supposed to last ten days and ended up lasing almost three weeks (thanks Covid!). As an animal-lover, who spoils my animals, it says a lot that I felt confident enough in Jeremy and Ally to be able to leave them in charge on so many occasions. All of the animals loved them, but one of our dogs in particular (little Fennel, who is sometimes a terror, quick to bite the ankles of any newcomer to the farm) really fell in love with Jeremy. If Fennel went missing, I knew he was likely tucked in bed in their camper, ready to spend the day or night with them.

I can’t say enough about how helpful these two were and highly recommend them to any host looking for honest and willing WorkAwayers.
